The hack-and-slash roguelite Morbid Metal launched on Steam Early Access today,

Developed by Screen Juice, Morbid Metal is set within a post-apocalyptic simulation. Players progress through stunning, semi-procedurally generated levels, fighting through hordes of enemies and powerful bosses in various environmental biomes, ranging from desolate wastelands of the far future to the overgrown ruins of mankind. 

Players can switch seamlessly between three powerful characters: Flux, Ekku, and Vekta, at any point during the game. Each character has a distinct fighting style and signature skills that can be chained together, giving players the creativity to discover new stylish and powerful combos. Players can acquire permanent upgrades to make their next run more successful, choose mid‑run upgrades, and take on high‑risk options like Devil’s Bargains or Operator’s Trials for powerful rewards.

“What began as a prototype for a university application in 2015 has grown into what Morbid Metal is today, shaped and fueled by the passion of the gaming community who believed in it early on,” said Felix Schade, Creator and Game Director of Morbid Metal at Screen Juice. “The game has grown far beyond my original vision thanks to the dedicated team at Screen Juice, and we can’t wait for players to experience it – and remember to push those combos to SSS!”

At early access launch, Morbid Metal features:

  • 10+ hours to finish the main path, with infinite replayability

  • Three unique playable characters with distinct playstyles:

    • Flux, great for high single-target precision

    • Ekku, who can cause heavy area devastation

    • Vekta, bringing ranged battlefield control

  • Two biomes:

    • Sublime Garden, which most resembles what the Simulation was pretending to be: a beautiful utopian retreat for the privileged. A millennium of neglect has eroded the landscape; human structures were changed to create the cruel gauntlet of fights to the death or to succession.

    • Steel Sanctuary, a fractured cityscape of towering steel and rusted ambition. Massive pipelines coil like serpent through neon-lit buildings, where enemies stalk the shadows and every corner hums with lethal tension.

  • Ten enemy archetypes with Elite variants and two final enemy bosses:

    • Saru, an apex predator of metal and rage who embodies the brutality and precision of Morbid Metal’s combat philosophy.

    • Prophet, the guard of the Steel Sanctuary.

  • Meta-Progression using starting modifiers, core upgrades, and persistent upgrades

  • A training room

  • Available in English, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese

  • Xbox & PlayStation controller support

  • Regular content updates throughout early access
