The Switch 2 version of Requiem is just as good as the more powerful console versions.

This review looks at the the Resident Evil Requiem experience on Switch 2. You can find the full in-depth review of the game here.

The Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem is an overall amazing port. The port looks just as good as the more powerful consoles in terms of graphics. The main noticeable downgrade are hair textures. The game can be displayed in 4K with HDR on Switch 2. Most of the time, the game will run in a smooth 60fps, but it does have dips when there is too much on the screen at once. It seems that environmental effects (raining) and Leon gameplay (constant blood and body parts) are the main culprits that bring down the framerate. Crowded indoor areas seem to make the framerate chug a little as well. It’s noticeable that as the game progresses to bigger surroundings, the game starts to run better. Overall, it runs at its worst in the earlier Leon scenarios.

The Switch 2 version also has motion controls that can be turned on or off through the options menu. The motion controls can work well if you fine tune the camera speed options. No matter what, they never did feel as smooth as RE4 Wii Edition motion controls however. If you plan on playing this game on Switch 2, it’s best to get a Switch Pro controller to play it. Playing with Joy cons doesn’t work too well. Naturally, by being on Switch 2, the game is also portable and it runs just as good in portable form. You can change the font to where it is bigger making it easier to see in portable form. It’s quite amazing how good this game looks on Switch 2. I played the Switch 2 version after the Xbox Series X version and it nearly felt the same overall. Since it rains in the first few scenarios, the game’s beginning scenarios are not a good introduction to the overall optimization, but I feel the game is overall VERY well optimized for the Switch 2. I’d give the Switch 2 version of Requiem the same score as the more powerful console versions because it still has the same great feel.

Final Rating: 90% - Resident Evil Requiem is the most satisfying main series original RE title in recent years.
