Every year, EA SPORTS releases its Madden NFL player ratings – and every year, a raging debate ensues among fans, gamers and especially NFL players about the accuracy of those numbers. Bleacher Report and Mandalay Sports Media (MSM), critically-acclaimed producers of The Last Dance, are jumping head first into the controversy by giving NFL players the exclusive, unprecedented opportunity to raise their ratings in real time through a new series – Underrated Presented by State Farm. In each of the series’ eight episodes, hosted by B/R’s Adam Lefkoe, one NFL player gets the chance to raise specific skill ratings with official Madden NFL Ratings Adjustor Clint Oldenburg. Underrated Presented by State Farm will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 9, across B/R Gridiron channels on the B/R app and social platforms.
The series will debut with Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, the team’s 2020 first-round pick and a former star at the University of Alabama, who is keen on raising his scores in the ‘medium route running’ and ‘catch in traffic’ categories. In a bid to elevate Jeudy’s standing, Lefkoe sets a range of skills tests that the receiver must perform on the field, with the goal of elevating his standing before he ever plays a down in the NFL. Other players to be featured in the series include All-Pro Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters, Los Angeles Chargers Wide Receiver Keenan Allen and All-Pro Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.
“Underrated taps into the zeitgeist surrounding Madden NFL player ratings and the heated conversation that happens with fans and the players themselves who feel they should be rated higher in specific skills,” said Sam Toles, Chief Content Officer, Bleacher Report. “This is the type of innovative, fan forward content our audiences crave; the sweet spot connecting sports, fandom and culture. Both EA SPORTS and Mandalay Sports Media have been amazing partners to bring this series to life.”
“Our annual player ratings are always one of the most hotly debated features we unveil in Madden NFL and we are always blown away by the passion gamers, fans and NFL players show when they get involved in the conversation,” said Clint Oldenburg, Madden NFL Ratings Adjustor. “Working with Bleacher Report on this series was a great opportunity to showcase a little more of our ratings process, while giving some of the stars of the NFL a chance to not just tell us why their ratings should be improved, but show us.”
“We’re enormously excited about this series and thrilled to be working with Bleacher Report, EA SPORTS and Adam Lefkoe,” said Jon Weinbach, Executive Producer and Executive Vice President, Mandalay Sports Media. “We believe this concept can be expanded to other popular sports video games and become an annual franchise that stirs conversation among gamers and pro athletes around the world.”
The series concept was created by Mandalay Sports Media’s Jonathan Vogler, who will serve as producer for the series alongside Sylvia Soto and Ollie Stokes. The series is Executive Produced by MSM’s Jon Weinbach, Mike Tollin, and Mason Gordon. Michael Gleaton is the series showrunner and Executive Producer. Executive producers from Bleacher Report include Adam Lekoe, Sam Toles and Drew Watkins, with Karin Hammerberg and Courtney Andrialis-Vincent serving as Co-Executive Producers. Rachel Roderman serves as Supervising Producer with Sean McManus as Senior Producer.
