UFC 179 is taking place on Saturday, October 25th at the Ginasio do Maracanazinho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Nearly three years after their first bout, No. 1 contender Chad Mendes is heading back to Brazil for a second shot at dethroning perennial Featherweight champion Jose Aldo on home turf. Since stopping Mendes with a spectacular opening-round KO in their first fight Aldo has continued his dominance over the division, rattling off three straight victories. Mendes, intent on avenging the only loss of his career has been even hotter, winning five in a row with four of those wins coming by way of KO. After three rounds of back-and-forth action, Aldo proved he has no intention of letting his belt go anytime soon. Speed and explosive striking were once again the champ's main keys to victory as the Brazilian landed a power left-hook late in the third that marked the beginning of the end for Mendes. Aldo finished Mendes off with some quick ground and pound to notch his seventh consecutive title defense. Aldo opened up the bout by softening Mendes up with an onslaught of his signature leg kicks while keeping his distance and avoiding the clinch. For his part, Mendes' timing was sharp as ever as he answered back with his share of powerful counterstrikes. Following some flashy combinations by the champ in the second frame that including a superman punch off the cage, Aldo continued imposing his will in the third, finally connecting with a hook/uppercut combo that dropped Mendes before finishing him off with some quick ground and pound to notch his seventh consecutive title defense. Don't miss UFC 179, this upcoming Saturday to see if our simulation stands up. | |
