| [8] NPCs |
|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
NPC typically means "non playable character", and it's just that; someone in
the game that you don't directly control. In RPGs, an NPC may be someone who
sells you an item or advances the story. In first-person-shooters, it may be
someone trying to kill you, or an AI partner. In racing games, it's the
opposing racers. In sports games, it's the opposing team. So on and so forth.
In The Sims 2, NPCs are those who help your family, but who you have no control
over. People like the maid, gardener and repairman. There are ten NPCs in the
game, not including visitors you've invited over. The NPCs are listed
alphabetically.

Bartender
=========
The bartender is hired over the phone. You need a bar to make use of the
bartender. When he arrives, he'll mix drinks at the bar, and walk around,
allowing you or your guests to take a drink. When he runs out, he'll make more
drinks and repeat, until he stays the full shift or until you dismiss him.
The bartender has a base salary of $10 and an hourly salary of $15. So if you
kept the bartender for four hours, it would cost you $70; fifteen for every
hour, and ten for the base.

Exterminator
============
The exterminator is hired over the phone, and they will come to your house one
time to kill any roaches that have shown up. While you can stomp or spray
cockroaches, exterminators can do it much faster. The only thing they won't do
is clean up the pile of dead bugs; that's for you or your maid.
The exterminator has a base salary of $10 and an hourly salary of $50. So if
you kept the exterminator for four hours, it would cost you $210; fifty for
every hour, and ten for the base.

Gardener
========
The gardener is hired over the phone, and they will come over every three days
to water your plants, your trees (the kind that need watering, not all of them)
and trim your hedges.
The gardener has a base salary of $5 and an hourly salary of $10. So if you
kept the gardener for four hours, it would cost you $45; ten for every hour,
and five for the base.

Grocery Delivery
================
You can order groceries to restock your fridge from the telephone or computer.
Within a couple of hours, a delivery person will show up. You must choose
"Accept Delivery" to get the groceries.
The price of groceries varies depending on how much you order, but all
deliveries have a $50 delivery fee. So if you ordered $200 worth of groceries,
it would cost you $250.

Maid
====
The maid is hired over the phone, and they will come over every day and clean
up your house for you. They will clean the shower, tub and counters; unclog
the toilet; pick up and dispose of any dirty dishes and spoiled food; make your
bed; and sweep up any ash piles. For some reason, though, the maid won't take
trash out of the compactor and put it in the garbage can outside.
The maid has a base salary of $10 and an hourly salary of $15. So if you kept
the maid for four hours, it would cost you $70; fifteen for every hour, and ten
for the base.

Nanny
=====
The nanny is hired over the phone, and will come to your house to take care of
your baby or toddler. She can arrange it so that she'll only arrive when you
aren't home (working), or she'll come anyway. She will feed, bathe and change
the baby. Because of this, you lose any chance of teaching a toddler to walk,
talk or use the toilet.
The nanny has a base salary of $10 and an hourly salary of $15. So if you kept
the nanny for four hours, it would cost you $70; fifteen for every hour, and
ten for the base.

Pizza Delivery
==============
You can order pizza from the telephone, and a delivery person will come to your
door within the hour. You have to click on the person and choose "Accept
Delivery" to get the pizza.
Pizza costs $40.

Repairman
=========
The repairman is hired over the phone, and they will come over just for the one
time you hire them. They will repair any broken items, like the stereo, TV,
computer, sink, etc. What they won't do is mop up any puddles caused by a
broken tub, shower or sink.
The repairman has a base salary of $10 and an hourly salary of $50. So if you
kept the repairman for four hours, it would cost you $210; fifty for every
hour, and ten for the base.

Social Bunny
============
The social bunny appears whenever your Sim's social motive goes completely red.
You are free to perform any social action on the social bunny, from attacking
it to talking to it to flirting with it and so on. The bunny's sole purpose is
to get your social score up. The bunny is only visible to the Sim who needs
it, so if you click on another Sim, it will appear as if the Sim talking with
the bunny is talking to themselves.

Therapist
=========
The therapist appears whenever your aspiration meter bottoms out into the
double red category, which is when your Sim starts their nervous breakdown,
collapses on the floor and starts mumbling. His sole purpose is to get your
Sim's aspiration meter to single red, which gives you control again, allowing
you to get their life back on track. The therapist never fails, but if you
start seeing him a lot, you either suck, or you're purposely putting your Sims
through hell.
