Yet Another Zombie Defense HD Review

Yet Another Zombie Defense HD is a game that lives up to its long and boring title. This twin-stick shooter will have you seemingly endlessly kiting a horde of bullet-sponge zombies in a circle around its single and, save for a single lamppost, empty level. Some of the zombies you'll kill will drop cash behind, which you can use between waves to build defenses. Unfortunately you won't be able to afford much after a round, so you'll need to save up your money in order to build a decent defense all at once. If you plop down a handful of barriers here and there, you'll find that the zombies destroyed them while you were busy kiting around in circles. You can save up for active defenses like turrets, but once you do you'll be surprised to find that you also need to have a weapon to put into the turret and then the ammo for the weapon. And all of the money spent on defenses is money that won't be spent to buy ammo for your own weapons. They've managed to make a base-building game in which you can't really afford to build a base.

That's pretty much all there is to the game. You run in circles as the number of zombies and their hit points increase to the point that you'll no longer be able to handle them. There are a variety of zombies and you'll encounter new ones the longer that you survive, but they all are pretty much the same as far as the way they follow and attack you go.

There's another mode in the game that dispenses with the base-building and simply challenges you to survive as long as possible, which usually occurs at the point at which your weapons can no longer keep up with the zombie health point increases. The endless zombie-kiting quickly gets boring, so I'm not sure why anyone would want to play a mode in which the goal is to extend that boredom as long as possible.

Lastly, there's a deathmatch mode in which you compete with other players to kill each other while also trying to fend off the zombies. I couldn't play this mode because I wasn't able to find anyone else playing the game when I tried on several occasions.

That's about all there is to the game. If you buy it, you'll be bored with it in less time than it took you to read this review.

Final Rating: 20% - Yet another game to avoid.
