Casey Jones and the Junkyard Jam is a combination of a new character and an extra stage for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate. The content requires some unlock methods in order to play. Casey Jones requires players to complete at least one run of the game (win or lose). The extra stage is an alternate path that you can take after the second stage. Once you beat the boss of the second stage, you can choose between the normal path and the extra Junkyard stage.

Both additions in the DLC are quite good. Casey Jones fights with his usual hockey stick and can also hit hockey pucks toward his enemy for extra damage. He is easily the most powerful character in the roster, but also the slowest. Yeah, he’s even slower than Donatello! At first glance, Casey looks weak, but once he is leveled up, he is a complete beast when you want sudden heavy damage. Once leveled up, this character doesn’t just damage enemies, he deletes them!

Casey’s “Tool” move gives him extra damage added on to his attacks for a few seconds. His special is an attack with his hockey puck that can hit multiple enemies. Once tagged with his special, the enemy will have an icon above them and this will cause Casey to hit the enemy with the final hit of his usual combo attack when he tries to hit that enemy, often resulting in a critical hit. Critical hits are a big part of what makes Casey so good. If you can get a high critical hit percentage with him during a run and then combine that with his ability for extra damage (both his own and what’s gained through buffs), he can take some TREMENDOUS damage from his enemies. He’s definitely just as fun as characters to experiment with.

Both Casey and the extra stage contribute to the existing story of the game. You’ll get extra dialogue from Casey at the turtle lair and also extra dialogue during the stage. The new stage involves the frogs (Genghis and his pals). As already mentioned, it can only be accessed after passing the second stage of the game. The stage seems like a step above the other stages when it comes to detail. The stage has two bosses. It’s like two of the other stages in one overall. It has new enemies in it and exclusive bosses. The stage serves as a shortcut to the later area. Casey tells the turtles that he knows of a shortcut to the rooftops area and that he needs to get his car back and that is where they’re partnership begins.

Overall, the DLC is quite good. It adds a good bit to the main game. The Casey Jones character is a lot of fun. Like I said, he doesn’t seem like much from the beginning. He doesn’t have a special that completely saves you from damage like the other characters and he starts out extremely slow, but if you can take advantage of his potential for heavy damage, he is an absolute beast. The new stage is like a double decker stage addition, so it’s quite fun to play.

Final Rating: 80%
