Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the DLC expansion to Monster Hunter Rise that was released earlier this year on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This DLC has already been out for the PC and Switch version since last year. Sunbreak is much more than a simple expansion – this expansion is just as long (if not longer) than the main game. Overall, if you enjoyed the main game of Monster Hunter Rise, you NEED to get the Sunbreak DLC.

The Sunbreak DLC is unlocked after completing the main story of Monster Hunter Rise (after beating all 7-star quests). In Sunbreak, you go to a new land to fight many new monsters along with some more powerful monsters known as “The Three Lords”. New and returning monsters are included in this expansion. Just like the main game, the creature designs are unique and each monster has their own unique mechanics. Unlike the main game quests, all the new DLC quests are offered through the game’s gathering hub, which makes them all available for co-op play. Each weapon in the game has new abilities (silkbind attacks and switch skills). You can also gain the ability to fully customize your Palico and Palamute partners. This helps to reduce their overall RNG during battles. There are also two new areas to explore.

There isn’t really much to say about this DLC other than you need to get it if you were seriously enjoying the main game. Just like the main game, I greatly enjoyed my time with Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. The new additions with the Sunbreak add-on give a lot more options to a game that already has a lot to do. Overall, if you like Monster Hunter Rise, you’ll enjoy Sunbreak just as much. Capcom seems to be adding more to the game with extra updates as time goes by. Eventually, the updates on console should reach the same updates that are on the PC and Switch version so that we have it all!

The Good:
+ New areas, new monsters, new Palico and Palumute customizations and more extra content!

The Bad:
- I really feel this should have been released along with the main game for Xbox and PS versions.

Final Rating: 80%
