Street Fighter V: Juri Character (DLC) Review
Juri from SSFIV returns once again ... and she still feels about the same.
Capcom has announced that Street Fighter V will come with a group of extra characters, modes and other updates that will release per month. The character lineup for this year is Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien. The July update included Juri as a new character. All characters are obtainable by purchasing the season pass or using fight money (or zenny) to buy the characters from the in-game shop. All characters come with a premium outfit.
Juri is the South Korean Taekwondo fighter that first appeared in Super Street Fighter IV. She is a member of S.I.N. that is well known for being brutal and sadistic. In SFV she wears a collared battle suit that is purple, pink and black and wears an eye patch over her left eye to cover the Feng Shui Engine implanted in that eye. She also has the same freaky horned bangs like she has in SFIV. I'm not very familiar with Juri's fighting style and moves since I never played her much SFIV, but she seems very close to being the same as she was in SFIV from what I have played of her in that game. She has a down, forward + kick move that can do a variety of other moves based on whether you have a charge for it or not. Each time you press a different powered kick attack while performing the move, you will get a different type of special move, but the move for each button must be charged with the basic special move animation after each use (per button), so you have to know when you can mix in her powered special moves and when you will have to charge. The EX version of the special attack will always perform the same type of special attack no matter if you have a charge or not. She also has an overhead flip kick and a rising spinning kick special move as well.
Juri's V-skill is a dash attack where she will dash to the other side of the opponent and perform a flying kick at them ' this is an instant cross-up. The V-skill can be charged and Juri can hit the opponent while she is dashing if she is close enough while performing the V-skill. Her V-trigger is much like her feng shui engine super move from SFIV. She will activate the feng shui engine in her left eye and will have access to powered up special kick attacks. You will no longer have to charge her kick attacks after each use, but each kick attack will take a bit of the V-trigger gauge as you perform one while the gauge continues to decrease. For her critical art, she will jump into the air and then unleash a huge wave of energy toward her opponent ' it's a much bigger wave than the light version of her charged kick attack.
This character has the potential to be very juggle heavy with her EX attacks that can juggle a character in the air quite a bit after a knock-up. She requires a lot of thought in your attack patterns if you choose to use her charged kick special attacks effectively since you have to remember to charge each variant with a basic special attack before it. Juri's alternate outfit looks similar to her overall look in SFIV. She wears a white dudou with white and black trousers. She has black taekwondo ankle wraps on her feet and black gloves that partially cover her hands. Juri also has her own character story just like the rest of the new characters so far. Overall, she is an interesting character with the need to charge her moves, but I never could get into playing Juri much. She has been in Super Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter x Tekken so she has been in the SF series ever since her first appearance, so she doesn't feel as welcome as the rest of the returning characters for me since I'm a bit tired of seeing her.
