In Short | Bring some color to the world of Assassin's Creed. |
Adult coloring books have exploded into a full-on phenomenon over the past year, and now you can find books dedicated to all manner of subjects including video games. One of those game-inspired coloring books is Assassin's Creed: The Official Coloring Book from Insight Editions. The book is 96 pages in length, which includes 15 full color pages at the end which feature full color reproductions of the original art that inspired some of the coloring pages. While those pages come at the cost of 15 pages to color, they are gorgeous art book quality reproductions that are enjoyable to browse and that can in turn inspire some of your colored creations. The coloring pages are relatively thick, but since the pages are double-sided the book is best suited to use with color pencils other than other media types which could potentially bleed through the pages. The art work in the books is taken from the entire game series, so all of the Assassins are represented here. The art includes a number of different topics from action scenes to portraits of the Assassins in their native habitats, as well as studies of Assassin weaponry and iconography. There is a variety of detail level in the different pictures, so some can be colored in relatively short order while others provide the opportunity to spend hours coloring in all of the fine details. Most of the images are contained to a single page, but there are some that are two page spreads and some of the pages feature multiple weapons per page. The Assassin's Creed games are quite violent, but the images are all of the PG/E10+ variety save for one which shows a barbed weapon entering a soldier's neck with a small blood splash around the wound. This is a high-quality book, and frankly will probably appeal to anyone who enjoys adventure scenes and not just to Assassin's Creed gamers. Those who play the series will enjoy seeing the familiar characters and locations, but the art is of high enough quality to be enjoyed by anyone. If you enjoy adult coloring books, or are just curious to give it a try, Assassin's Creed: The Official Coloring Book is a great choice. Final Rating: | |
