Activision recently hosted a Curse of Osiris hands-on play event at Bungie's headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, and I was lucky enough to be one of the people in attendance. Our first exposure to the Destiny 2 DLC launching in December was the campaign that's a part of the new expansion. Between the need to keep the secrets that Bungie asked us to keep closely guarded until launch and my own goal of not spoiling the story for you, I won't be giving you a comprehensive look at the campaign here. However, I can give you a glimpse into what to expect from the campaign to whet your appetite. If you played the original Destiny, then the name 'Osiris' will be familiar to you from that game's Trials of Osiris events. Osiris, Brother Vance, and the Lighthouse were all tied to the event, but only on the periphery to what was essentially a loot quest. Curse of Osiris does for the Trials of Osiris what Rise of Iron did for the Iron Banner, turning event NPCs into full-fledged characters in the Destiny universe. But don't worry if you just joined in beginning with Destiny 2, you'll still be able to follow and enjoy the story even if you're meeting these characters for the first time. Curse of Osiris is centered on the Infinite Forest, a Vex construct that is essentially a giant supercomputer that allows them to simulate multiple timelines into the future. The entrance to the Infinite Forest is located at the Lighthouse, a temple of sorts on Mercury that is watched over by the followers of Osiris. When Osiris' Ghost Sagira emerges from the Infinite Forest without him, she is taken to Ikora Rey in the Tower. Yes, 'she,' in Curse of Osiris we hear another Ghost for the first time and learn that they each have their own unique voice and personality. Osiris is a pariah among many of the Guardians in the Tower, so your mission in Curse of Osiris is a covert one. Ikora Rey sends you with Sagira to Mercury in search of Brother Vance in the hope that he'll be able to help you to determine what has happened to Osiris. This is the first step in your quest and is the basis for the first mission in the campaign, which you can watch below: Most of your missions after the first will begin with you traversing the Infinite Forest. The Infinite Forest is series of platforms connected by gates that form a maze that takes you from Mercury to a different time and place. Each platform is occupied by Vex defenders, and since you are moving through time and space you'll sometimes encounter other races in the Infinite Forest as well. Just what led Osiris into the Infinite Forest and what happened to him there are things you'll need to find out on your own. What I can tell you is that you'll learn a lot about Osiris and Brother Vance, as well as some of the internal conflicts and politics within the Warlock order. Curse of Osiris is an expansion focused on expanding Destiny 2's lore, and the campaign succeeds in answering a number of questions about a corner of its universe that's remained mostly a mystery until now. You'll be free to travel to Mercury and the Lighthouse during and after the campaign, as it will be the game's newest zone destination, but that's a topic for the next preview.
