Video Gaming News - December 2002

Calabasas, CA (December 2, 2002) - THQ today announced the first title based on the recent agreement with Games Workshop (LSE: GAW) for worldwide, interactive rights to the Warhammer 40,000 universe: Fire Warrior. Fire Warrior is a first person action game based on the table-top wargame and will be available worldwide for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and the PC platform in summer 2003.

“Fire Warrior is our first game set in the dark and futuristic fantasy world of Warhammer 40,000 and we are extremely excited to be collaborating with Games Workshop on this world-renowned property,“ stated Tim Walsh, senior vice president of International publishing. “Fire Warrior is more than a first-person action game, it is an intense experience that plunges the player into a terrifying world beyond their worst nightmares.”

“We are extremely impressed with this, our first game with THQ. THQ has really captured the dark and brooding atmosphere of the 41st Millennium, while making an eminently playable and accessible game,” said Jon Gillard, Head of Business Development, Games Workshop. “We feel it will be a great introduction for those that are unfamiliar with our worlds, and a fantastic experience of immersion for those already involving themselves through our other products.”

From THQ:

Developed by Kuju, Fire Warrior is a first person shooter for set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Set over the course of a day, the player takes on the role of Kais, a young Fire Warrior. Kais is part of a team selected to rescue the Ethereal Ko’vash, who has been kidnapped by Imperial Forces. What starts out as a routine mission posing no real threat quickly descends into a symphony of horror and torment. Kais’ mission takes him through intense trench warfare on a battle-ravaged planet to boarding action against his own orbiting ship. Fire Warrior features 17 exciting and diverse levels, 22 exotic characters to battle against and 16 devastating weapons to experience. The game also features four-player multiplayer action with unique environments and a chance to play the enemies faced in the single player game.
