Redwood City, CA (October 27, 2004) - EA Sports today announced that
there will be a FIFA Football 2005 World Cup event to be held in New York City.

WHAT: Thousands of the country’s best soccer gamers will battle head-to-head
in pressure packed games of EA SPORTS™ FIFA Football 2005 on XboxŇ to decide who
has the skills to represent North America at the worldwide finals of the
inaugural FIFA Interactive World Cup, the world’s first ever FIFA sanctioned
video game tournament. This unique concept, created by FIFA, combines on- and
off-line soccer gaming action featuring EA’s FIFA Football 2005 on Xbox and Xbox®
Live™.
The North American Regional event of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, being held
at the Jacob Javits Center’s North Pavilion on October 30th, is the second of
nine regional tournaments being held on six different continents during the
months of October and November. The overall winner of this new video game
tournament will be honored on stage alongside the actual FIFA Player of the
Year, and recognized as the FIFA Interactive World Player 2004 by FIFA President
Joseph S. Blatter at the FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich in December.
The FIFA Interactive World Cup competition is open to gamers of all ages;
however, those under 18 will require a written consent form, signed by a parent
or guardian.
The Javits Center will become soccer central with fun for the entire family.
Players and spectators of all ages will be able to sharpen their real-world
football skills through various separate side activities. Contestants waiting
for their turn on the tournament pods will be able to practice their moves while
enjoying music from well-known DJs Lottie, Mutiny and Carl Kennedy.
