Video Gaming News - October 2004

Beverly, MA (October 25, 2004) - Atari today announced that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, has been approved for release by Sony and manufacturing has begun. Rated ‘T’ for teen, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 and the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 Limited Edition will launch for the PlayStation 2 on November 16th and should be available in-stores by November 23.

“Since the first Dragon Ball Z: Budokai game launched in December 2002, Atari has captured the excitement of anime fans everywhere and established the Budokai series as an annual top-seller,” said Matt Collins, Director of Brand Marketing for Atari’s Beverly studio. “By listening to fans, staying true to the Dragon Ball Z animated series, and launching three weeks earlier than in 2002 or 2003, Atari has laid the groundwork for another successful holiday season despite intense competition in the marketplace.”

From Atari:

In Budokai 3, a “Hall of Fame” cast of warriors from Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and DBZ movies will come together for a tournament of champions. With the power of the new Saiyan Overdrive Fighting System, players will have unprecedented gameplay control and Dragon Ball Z authenticity. Players will earn points, allowing them to customize their characters and create passwords to share custom characters via the Internet. Also, an exciting and all-new single player mode will allow fans to recreate some of the most dramatic DBZ moments. All told, Budokai 3 will mark the best installment in the series yet.

The Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 Limited Edition includes several bonus items especially for the most ardent fans of DBZ. Official licensee Jakks Pacific has commissioned an exclusive Broly Chibi toy featuring the character’s Budokai 3 in-game alternate costume. Atari also has produced a documentary that gives rare glimpse at how the U.S. voice actor cast of DBZ makes the show’s memorable characters come to life in a behind-the-scenes bonus DVD video called ”Behind the Screams: The Making of Budokai 3.” The DVD also contains the Budokai 3 "Super Trailer" video and a URL that fans can use to catch a sneak peek of the first ever DBZ action-adventure game - DBZ Sagas: Evolution.
