Video Gaming News - September 2005
Redwood City, CA (September 20, 2005) - Konami today announced that it
has shipped S.L.A.I. (Steel Lancer Arena International) to retail stores
nationwide.
From Konami:
The future is now as Konami brings gamers the first online mech combat game
for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Providing a fast-paced,
arcade style experience, S.L.A.I. allows players to quickly master the basics of
mech fighting while also offering in-depth strategy for more advanced gamers.
"As the first online mech combat game for the PlayStation 2, S.L.A.I.
provides hours of non-stop battle action and frenzied excitement for all
gamers," said Dennis Lee, Group Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment -
America. "While the game delivers an approachable pick-up-and-play experience
for the genre, it is the customization, stealth features and online play that
sets S.L.A.I. apart."
Set in 2071, where robot fighting has become the most popular sport, players
can earn money to customize the ultimate fighting machine to take into the
online arena. With more than one million variations, gamers can make use of a
seemingly endless selection of body parts and weapons. Bringing the bots online
opens an entirely new world of competition and challenge, as players fight for
supremacy. Online arenas allow up to six players to enter with four players
battling head-to-head at one time. Through the innovative Quick Battle Mode,
other players can immediately jump into the game to replace defeated players –
creating a frenzied action-packed battle zone.
Players can take advantage of both first and third person viewpoints as they
take their mechs into combat in distinctive international battle arenas in a
vast array of cities including Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, Cairo, and New York.
Beyond the chaotic battle action is the ability to utilize stealth tactics
through an innovative optical camouflage that turns mechs virtually invisible.
Gamers can play with pre-configured or customized mechs in four different modes
including over 50 hours of gameplay with the in-depth Story Mode. Additionally,
they can take their saved mechs to battle friends in the VS. Mode. Adding to the
excitement is the ability to create your own mind-blowing soundtrack by choosing
from a selection of over 90 songs.
