Video Gaming News - September 2003
Los Angeles, CA (September 5, 2003) - Vivendi Universal Games
announced that the video game Futurama has arrived at retail stores nationwide.
From Vivendi Universal:
The 31st century comes to virtual life with the assistance of Matt Groening
who served as Executive Game Designer throughout the development of the video
game. Futurama is a third-person platform action game, developed by Unique
Development Studios in Sweden, for the PlayStationâ2 computer entertainment
system and the Xboxâ video game system from Microsoft and features four playable
characters, over twenty levels, puzzle/platform gameplay, and special combat
moves all combined with the humor, character development and innovation of the
highly popular & award winning television show created by Matt Groening.
The gameplay and detailing have been developed in conjunction with Matt
Groening to ensure an authentic Futurama experience. Matt Groening, series
creator, said, “Futurama’s sci-fi themes fit perfectly with sophisticated video
game technology, helping you imagine what it would be like to be alive in the
31st Century. It involves blasting a lot of aliens.”
The main character and original voice actors have been used throughout the
game and series writer J. Stewart Burns, who won an EMMY® for scripting the
classic Futurama episode, Roswell That Ends Well, has written the game’s
storyline. Gamers will also be treated to about 30 minutes of new Futurama
cinematic footage.
Along with the television show synergy, Futurama utilizes NDL’s Gamebryo(TM)
3D graphics engine and toolkit to enhance the game’s style of 3D cartooning.
Gamebryo's flexible framework provided the development team with what it needed
for this project. The technology plugged right into the production pipeline and
easily allowed custom features, content and gameplay to be added.
Futurama is available now on PlayStation 2 and Xbox for a suggested retail
price of $49.99 with an ESRB “Teen” rating. For more information, log onto

second production season, plus an entire universe of exclusive bonus materials,
including deleted scenes, Easter eggs, animatics, storyboards and much more. The
