Video Gaming News - July 2005
New York, NY (July 15, 2005) - Take-Two announced today that
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is now available in retail stores across North
America for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and PC, with the GameCube
version available next week.
From Take-Two:
The game’s celebrity lineup includes the likeness of Oscar-nominated actor
Johnny Depp, who stars as Willy Wonka in the film, which is based on the Roald
Dahl book and directed by Tim Burton. Additionally, the following talent from
the film have provided their voice and likeness for the game: Freddie Highmore
as Charlie Bucket, David Kelly as Grandpa Joe, Philip Wiegratz as Augustus Gloop,
Julia Winter as Veruca Salt, Jordan Fry as Mike Teavee, and AnnaSophia Robb as
Violet Beauregarde. Deep Roy provides his likeness as the Oompa-Loompas, and
Geoffrey Holder provides his voice as the Narrator. Burton has provided creative
consultation for the game.
“We have developed a uniquely fun gaming experience which builds on Tim Burton’s
film and creative vision of the Roald Dahl book,” said Jean Raymond, Director of
Marketing for Take-Two’s Los Angeles office. “We’re confident the game recreates
the visual quality of the movie while delivering fun interactive environments
within the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory universe to players.”
“Basing a game on this extraordinary Tim Burton film and having this remarkable
lineup of talent extend their roles into the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
videogame will greatly enhance the players’ overall experience,” said Philippe
Erwin, Vice President of Production for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
“Players can engage in their favorite film scenes, which are further expanded
inside the game with hours of gameplay.”
Inspired by the Warner Bros. Pictures feature film Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, directed by Tim Burton and based on the classic Roald Dahl book, the
videogame allows players to embark on an adventure exploring the many
extraordinary environments of the factory, including some elements from the book
that do not appear in the film, accompanied by everyone’s favorite Oompa-Loompas.
Players discover what happens after the other children, greed-driven and
unrestrained, wreak havoc throughout the factory and solve mystifying puzzles
using special candy powers. Only by helping the Oompa-Loompas and restoring
order to the factory can gamers earn the respect of Willy Wonka and win a prize
beyond their wildest imagination! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is rated “E”
for everyone.
