Video Gaming News - May 2004
Los Angeles, CA (May 12, 2004) - Sammy Studios today premiered a live
game demonstration of Darkwatch at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
Darkwatch blends Vampire-Horror and Western genres in a first person shooter
From Sammy Studios:
Sammy Studios is holding presentations of Darkwatch for the duration of E3,
held May 12-14, 2004 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Demos will take place
inside a replica of an in-game haunted church featuring a 33’ tall spire that
scrapes the ceiling of the exhibit hall. The church serves as a dedicated
theatre, incorporating state-of-the-art projection and surround sound technology
to deliver a stunning live game demonstration. Sammy Studios is located at booth
#424 South Hall.
Also today, Sammy Studios launched the first phase of a new Web site dedicated
to Darkwatch at
www.darkwatch.com. Designed by the award-winning team from My Pet Skeleton,
the site captures the game’s stylistic look through amazing 3D visual effects
and offers up the first comprehensive look at the game. Darkwatch comes to the
PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system* and Xbox video game system from
Microsoft® in spring 2005. The title has an MRSP of $49.99 and is not yet rated.
“Darkwatch will establish Sammy Studios as a creator of compelling original
franchises,” said Tim Pivnicny, senior VP of sales and marketing, Sammy Studios,
Inc. “We have a great game being created by a talented and passionate team. Our
goal at E3 is to premiere it with the prominence it deserves. We want to elevate
excitement for those who already know Darkwatch, and firmly implant it in the
minds of the uninitiated as a game event for the coming year.”
Darkwatch introduces a mysterious secret society that has protected humanity
from evil since the dawn of civilization. Their newest and most deadly agent is
Jericho Cross, an outlaw gunslinger pulled into their ranks after an unfortunate
close encounter with a vampire lord. As the one responsible for unleashing the
vampire and his minions on the West, Jericho must use his new vampire powers to
hunt him down to prevent the American Frontier from being overrun by the undead,
and to save his own soul from a damned eternity.
Darkwatch promises a cinematic video game experience with remarkable game play
variety in an FPS. With Jericho’s supernatural abilities, mysteriously advanced
Darkwatch weaponry, shattering melee attacks unique to each weapon, armed
vehicles and a deadly demon steed, players lay waste across a Wild West infested
by Vampires and other supernatural creatures. Darkwatch creates a “living” West,
where the choices the player makes lead to different paths and abilities based
on a unique reputation and experience system. The experience is further enhanced
with location-specific damage, letting players tear apart the undead, and
innovative use of Havok physics for dynamic objects that can be improvised as
weapons.
The new Web site is the destination for the latest information on Darkwatch,
setting its premise and revealing key game features. Visitors can access the
newest screenshots, video trailers and artwork, download wallpapers, post
messages, “Join the Darkwatch” to receive updates and even preorder the game. In
addition to the dedicated game site, Sammy Studios has launched a forum where
the Darkwatch community can exchange thoughts and ideas up to and beyond the
game’s release. The Darkwatch forum is located at http://forums.sammystudios.com,
and the Web site is now live at
www.darkwatch.com.
