| Time to jack a train. |
If you need to make it across the state and are tired of driving, then the
Brown Streak Express is an excellent choice. In San Fierro head to the Doherty
neighborhood and you’ll find Cranberry Station, the perfect place to climb
aboard the Brown Streak and sit back, relax, and watch San Andreas roll on by.
Of course if you’d rather drive than ride, you can always hijack a train
instead. When a train pulls into the station, grab the engineer and toss him to
the ground and take the controls. You can drive the train to get you to your
next stop or instead try to earn some money with the Freight Train Challenge.
The controls are simple enough – stop and go – but the challenge is managing
all of the weight and momentum of a train. It takes a while to reach full speed
and it takes a while to stop. When running freight you’ll need to keep an eye on
the mini-map because it will let you know when a station is approaching. In the
stations there is a red marker and all that you need to do is stop the train on
the blip. Simple, right? If you think so you’ve never tried stopping a few
thousand tons traveling at 100 MPH before.
It will also be a challenge to navigate the train to the station in the first
place. Timed checkpoints will force you to keep you train moving at high speeds
between stations and you’ll nee to go fast enough to reach them in time but not
so fast that you derail the train. It may seem like it’s more trouble than it’s
worth, but the Freight Train Challenge has huge payouts and if you want to make
some serious bank a little time on the rails may be just the ticket.
