Going for a stealth kill.

While previous GTA games were all about in your face action, San Andreas also adds a new component to your repertoire: stealth action. You’ll now be able to hide in dark corners and alleyways to avoid detection. If you need to move, walking slowly or crouching will keep you from making too much noise. You’ll be able to tell when you are hidden by your indicator on the mini-map turning blue. Keep yourself hidden and you’ll be in position to make a silent stealth kill.

The classic stealth weapon is the knife and you’ll be able to wield it to make stealth kills before your enemy even knows that you’re there. When you successfully sneak up on an opponent, CJ will raise his arm to indicate when you are in range of a knife strike. Once in range it is a simple matter of pressing the Circle button and the knife comes down into your enemy’s neck before he can even make a sound.

If you’d prefer to keep your distance, then the silenced pistol will be your weapon of choice. You can use free aim to nail your enemy with a head shot or get a little closer and let the target lock do the dirty work. While silenced pistols are quiet they aren’t entirely noise-free, so you run the risk of someone close by hearing the gunshot – an issue you don’t even need to worry about when making knife kills.
