Well to bring you a look at Fight Club I’m going to have to break one of its
top rules by talking about Fight Club. It’s been a few years since the movie
became a cult hit, but the movie featured plenty of fighting and fighting games
are still popular with gamers. In designing the game, the developers have taken
Fight Club’s Rule Seven to heart – fights go on as long as they have to. The
goal is not to survive to the end of the round, but just to survive as your
opponent won’t stop coming for you until one of you is beaten to a pulp or taps
out. The game drives this point home by going for brutally realistic graphics
which will reflect blood-stained and torn clothes, broken bones, and real-time
facial deformations as the fight wears on. And in case you’re worried about
missing a bone shattering blow, don’t – the game will feature the camera angles
and x-ray effects that you need to see all the gory details. This isn’t all eye
candy mind you; it all has a real effect on a fighter’s abilities.

In Fight Club, you’ll have a vested interest in your fighter surviving his
current match in one piece. The battles aren’t isolated spats; you’ll need to
guide your character through the game’s story mode picking up points with wins
that can be spent to improve your character. The story mode will be tied to
events from the film so you’ll recognize the locations in which the fights take
place. As for your character, you’ll be able to select from 10 characters from
the film, with an additional 4 characters unlockable. Other modes of play will
include arcade, survival, training, and online. Online support includes
tournaments and single matches, player rankings, and downloadable content.
Fight Club will strive to make these environments seem as real as possible to
match the game’s realistic fight model. Fight Club will take place in
interactive environments in which just about everything that you see can be
destroyed – windows, dumpsters, doors…, even walls or cars. Also, to further
support immersion the level transition between arenas will all take place within
the game.
Fight Club is aiming to be more than a game based on a movie. It is going to try
and provide one of the most realistic fighters to date. We’ll continue to bring
you details on this game as its development continues.
