| Mystic Manor is at the center of the spooky happenings. |
Scooby Doo has been enjoying a bit of a renaissance lately. Since the
release of the live action film, Scooby has appeared in several full length
animated features, a new TV series, and has even made his way to cereal and
snack treat boxes. With all this Scooby saturation it's not surprising that he
has made his way to new video games as well. In spite of all the new
Scooby stuff out there, Scooby Doo! Night of 100 Frights is an homage of sorts
to the classic cartoons of the original series. Classic ghouls like the
Black Knight and the Creeper are on the loose and it's up to Scooby to stop them
once again.
Scooby and the gang pay a visit to Daphne's friend Holly at Mystic Manor only to find
that Holly's uncle, the eccentric inventor Alexander Graham, has been
kidnapped by the mysterious Mastermind. Before the gang can get to the
bottom of the mystery, Scooby finds himself alone and that everyone else is
missing. Your job is to guide Scooby through the Mystic Manor and its
surrounding areas to rescue your friends and capture the Mastermind.
Night of 100 Frights is a platformer that primarily plays out in 2D with
occasional larger areas that give you the room to move around in 3D.
Scooby can run and jump, which are the primary skills you'll need as the game is
filled with pits and platforms, both stationary and moving. There are also
small creepy, crawly critters such as spiders and rats running around which
Scooby can dispatch in the time honored platform tradition of jumping on their
heads. As you make your way through the game, you'll come across some of
Graham's inventions which will add more moves to your repertoire. Springs
will allow you to jump higher, a football helmet will allow you to bash the
larger enemies, and an umbrella will help you float over larger gaps. Yes,
Graham is famous for inventing umbrellas and football helmets.
