| You get to play as five different Dragon Ball Z characters. |
Often times I find it funny when I run across someone that doesn’t know much
about video games. What I mean is how can they possibly not know anything about
Grand Theft Auto III or how can they never have heard of Zelda. It seems almost
impossible to me. These are the people who truly must be living underneath the
proverbial rock. Well it’s time I admit I too have been under that rock, for I
have never dealt with the huge video game entity of Dragon Ball Z. Nope, I
couldn’t have told you the first thing about it before I played Dragon Ball Z:
The Legacy of Goku II. I mean I have heard of the games and maybe I knew of the
cartoon, but nothing more than that. It was always some sort of strange mystery
to me. I kind of figured it was a fad that would vanish about the time I got
into it, so I never bothered to check it out. Yet despite all of these
shortcomings when it came to the Dragon Ball Z universe I found the game pretty
enjoyable. Read on and I’ll let you know why…
So, apparently there are almost 80 episodes of Dragon Ball Z. Who knew? What
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II (let’s just call it Goku II from now on)
does is take different parts of several storylines and slaps them into the game,
starting from the Trunk Saga through the Cell Games. Now for the Dragon Ball Z
fan this is going to be awesome. I can only imagine the excitement from seeing
familiar characters and scenes from you favorite episodes in the game.
Unfortunately for the uninitiated the story can become a little confusing, not
enough to ruin the experience but you can just tell that things would be a lot
more clear if you had been following Dragon Ball Z from the start. Let’s just
say that there are killer androids that are going to wipe out Earth and this
isn’t even the worst of the problems.
Legacy of Goku II plays a lot like a traditional RPG, somewhere along the lines
of a GBA Zelda or an old-school SNES game. Throughout the game you will control
many different characters from the Dragon Ball Z world. In addition to Goku,
gotta play as him since his name is in the title, you take turns as Gohan,
Piccolo, Trunks and Vegeta. There is also a special character you can unlock at
the end of the game, but I won’t ruin any surprises here. Which character you
are controlling is actually important, as some areas are only accessible for
certain characters.
