Fans of Alias will finally get their chance to play as super-spy Sydney Bristow in a videogame due this September.  The game is played from a third person perspective, and features a lot of what makes the show so popular - including Sydney in a variety of sexy undercover disguises.

Alias plays as an action-stealth hybrid game.  You must infiltrate heavily guarded locations, gaining entrance with the help of a disguise and cover story.  You must then go after your target by slipping away when the opportunity presents itself.  For example, the demo shown at E3 featured a mission in which Sydney donned a skimpy waitress uniform to serve drinks at a swank Monte Carlo casino.  When the headwaiter wasn't looking Sydney slipped into the kitchen and started her real 'job' at the party.  Any doubt that the enemy had nothing to hide was quickly erased as soon as Sydney encountered a whole host of patrolling guards.

Keeping a low profile and staying out of sight is an important part of a successful mission, and in Alias Sydney can use the environment to her advantage to hide behind objects, against walls, and to peer around corners.  The game also features split screen action showing the guards on patrol or giving chase, which ratchets up the tension by letting you know just how close you are to getting caught.

If you can successfully sneak up on an enemy, you can use one of the game's silent takedown moves to take the enemy out before he knows what hit him.  At other times there's just no way to avoid a fight, but not to fear because Sydney can more than take care of herself.  You'll be able to utilize a variety of athletic and gymnastic-like moves that will have Sydney flipping, kicking, and chopping down the enemy.  The ability to counter your enemies' attacks with special moves adds a strategic element to the combat and makes it more than a simple button-mashing affair.  You'll also be able to make use of the surrounding environment, both as an aid to pulling off some off-the-wall moves (literally) and as a source of impromptu weaponry.

Far too many games licensed from TV shows resemble their source of inspiration in name only.  Luckyily for fans of the Alias show Acclaim has brought in the writers of the show itself to craft the game's plot, so you can expect the same great action, locales, and plot twists in the game that you find in the show.  With the addition of the voice talent of the show's cast, Alias the game should play like an interactive episode of the show.
