Mace Griffin wasn't always a bounty hunter. He started out as a member
of an elite law enforcement agency known as the Rangers. However, a
sinister conspiracy is at play in the galaxy and its first move was to eliminate
the Rangers. Through a campaign of infiltration and sabotage, they worked
to destroy the Rangers from within. Mace Griffin was one of those set-up
and framed, and was sentenced to ten years on a penal colony.
During his incarceration, the Rangers were replaced by an ineffective law
enforcement group known as the Enforcers. Because of the Enforcers'
inability to deal with the rising tide of crime, the Guild of Bounty Hunters was
formed to fight the wave of crime head on. On his release Mace joined the
guild, although his motives were not really altruistic. As a bounty hunter
he'll have access to weapons, cash, and classified data that will serve him well
in his quest to exact revenge on the conspiracy that lead to his downfall.
Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter will follow Mace both on the ground and in space
as he seeks to unravel the mystery behind the conspiracy that destroyed the
Rangers. The action-oriented title will feature six different ships for
Mace to pilot, and provide 17 weapons in space and on the ground to help him to
avenge his framing. Boasting seamless transitions between space and land
combat and "life-like" NPCs, Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter has the look of a game
that will stand out from all of the space action games that have come before it.
To get a closer look at what the game will offer, we asked some questions of the
game's producer, Paul Chapman. Here is what he told us about the game:
GT: Mace Griffin works as a bounty hunter while also trying to exact
revenge on the conspirators who sent him to prison. How will these dual
motivations be worked into the storyline and the mission objectives?
PC: The job of bounty hunter is simply a means to an end - it gives Mace
access to classified information and people who can provide him with answers.
When the player starts a mission, they will have no way of knowing whether it
will lead them closer to their ultimate goal or simply be another paying job.
For each mission the player will have a number of objectives which unfold as
they progress - if they get some useful information it's a bonus. The structure
has allowed us to introduce a lot of interesting characters and scenarios.
GT: Please tell us a bit about the NPC AI. How do the
intelligence, bravery, and health ratings given to the NPCs affect their
behavior? Will NPCs ally with Mace or does he work solo throughout the game?
PC: Our AI will use different tactics depending upon species, bravery, weapon
carried, ammo carried, health, range of skills, if in a group or solo, and
environment, which obviously creates a lot of possibilities. The major strengths
of our AI is the variety, the realism and their ability to use cover. Mace has a
number of allies throughout the game to help him along.
