Random battles in the Wave World are so very numerous like in many other RPG games. Apart from zenny (currency), not much is earned from engaging in a random battle. You can't level up and there is no experience gained. You'll gain a buster ranking based on how quickly you defeated the enemy but this will only affect your zenny amount at the end of the battle and you might earn a new battle card at the end of the battle. Overall the random battles started to feel repetitive after a while since there was little to be gained from them aside from extra currency.

The main enjoyable savior that I found while dealing with battles were the boss battles since they changed up the fights quite a bit with their multiple attacks and patterns that weren't always easily recognizable like normal enemies. There is an option to instantly transport out of the Wave World to avoid some random battles, but you always have to trudge back through the Wave World and you'll once again be forced to get involved in plenty of random battles at one point or another.

Besides bosses, enemy variety consists of only a few enemy designs per area and some of them carry over to newer areas. The famed Hard Hat enemy that appears in almost every Mega Man is the most common type of enemy earlier in the game. Besides the Hard Hat, many of the other enemy designs were lacking in overall creativity - such as mortar guns, ghosts, and some sort of tree stump with a spear, just to name a few.

The story in the game is pretty well done even though I am not a big fan of light-hearted stories. The main factor that kept me interested in the story was the unique characters and their personalities. Although the story usually involves interactions between Geo and his friends there were quite a few problems that rose up through the game to keep the story feeling interesting.

Much of the time, each area of the game is composed of several minor quests that must be completed in order to advance (not always "fetch and retrieve" but similar) - this set up can get annoying when you get stuck at certain parts because of the constantly changing objective. A help option is available by pressing the L button but sometimes this only gives vague hints that didn't help at all and made me wander throughout the areas until I found the particular item or individual that Geo was forced to retrieve or talk to.
