The overall graphics in the Wii version is not up to par with the more
powerful systems. The textures for the characters and the environment have an
unclear appearance and the colors seem dark at times. The animation for each
character is fairly smooth. Each of the characters has their own unique way of
moving. Po bounces a bit while running and he will tiptoe if you move the analog
forward slightly. Cutscenes are also done very well and have some good dialogue
to go with them.
The voice acting during cutscenes gives the player the feel of the movie
quite well. Each character's voice sounds much like the character in the actual
movie. Each stage opens with a narration done by Po that sets up the stage
rather well and helps to keep the player in touch with Po's unique personality.
There were some parts where the audio seemed to fade out to where I could barely
hear it and I did witness a few parts where the audio simply stopped - like when
Po was supposed to be narrating before a stage started.
As already mentioned, the Wii controls make some areas more frustrating
thanks to the inaccuracy of the motion controls for some commands. There are a
few commands that appear during cutscenes that require motion controls in which
the Wii control setup works rather well. The overall control setup is
comfortable - move Po with the analog, A and B are jump and light attack
respectively, the D-pad on the Wii-mote is used to control the camera.
For a movie licensed game, Kung Fu Panda isn't that bad at all. The Wii
version has some controller and graphical issues but it still doesn't take away
from the fun of the game that much. The action and platforming is implemented
well and there is quite a bit of variety in the gameplay. There is also a
multiplayer mode for up to four players to battle it out against each other.
It's an overall decent movie game that is worth a try for those that enjoyed the
Kung Fu Panda movie.
The Good:
+ Multiple playable characters
+ Good voice acting during cutscenes
The Bad:
- Graphics could be better
- Wii controls can make some parts frustrating
Graphics: 6.5
Controls: 6.5
Sound: 7.5
Gameplay: 7.5
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
70%. The Wii version of Kung Fu Panda is not
without its flaws, but it offers a good blend of platforming action for a fan of
the film.
