"Every once and a while, a game convinces me to buy a console... I can
remember playing Tekken2 and saying "I gotta get me a Playstation!" Now, years
later, I've purchased a PS2 for the sole purpose of playing PrideFC. Finally, a
game with Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock!
This game offers instant, bloody gratification on Easy mode, or a white-knuckle
roller coaster on Hard. If you're familiar with the UFC Playstation games,
you'll have little difficulty with the controls; otherwise, expect to spend some
time in Training Mode before you enter the Grand Prix!
As with any game based on MMA, some of the characters are outdated, and some
newer superstars (CroCop and Fedor, for example) are absent. But a highly
detailed Create A Fighter mode allows you to fill in the gaps. Some of the
available faces strongly resemble such real-life fighters as Kevin Randleman,
Tito Ortiz, Pedro Rizzo, and even Jens Pulver and Caol Uno!
This game could only be improved by the addition of a Career or Story mode to
give you a sense of linear progress; as it stands, though, it is quite easily
the best MMA simulator in the world today. It may not be every gamer's cup of
tea, but gamers who follow Pride or UFC will bow down and pray to it." -
