There are several game types in K-1. In the Grand Prix you jump straight into the fights and try to win the K-1 Championship. The Champion’s Revolution is the career mode for the game. This is where you select a fighter and develop his skills through a series of training and matches. It is a fairly straightforward approach but does add the odd aspect of answering interview questions after the fight. With the Exhibition mode you pick the two fighters to fight and go at it, or if you just feel like watching you can do that also. There is also a Revival mode where you reenact famous matches and rounds from K-1 history. I guess I would be more excited about this feature if I knew anything about K-1 history.

Down and maybe out.

Graphically K-1 is all over the place. The fighters are pretty nice looking. Everything else looks rather lame. The arenas could be anywhere and there just isn’t that much that makes one stand out from the others. There are ring girls between rounds and I usually find that fun because the girls are frequently cute and in my own simpleminded male way I like that. But in this case they were just blurry and blocky. Gee, if I can’t at least gawk at the ring girls, why are they there? The cut scenes and fighter intros would have been better off left out. I would have like to seen the fighters look like they were in a fight. They look pretty much the same no matter what is going on and I would have thought getting kicked in the mouth would have left a mark of some sort. And just a quick note about the music: why is the music from Titanic playing between rounds? I mean, come on, there’s a fight going on where two men are trying to knock the living daylights out of each other and the best music they can come up with between rounds makes me want to take a nap? Strange to say the least.

In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 74%.  K-1: World Grand Prix is an attempt to bring a new and realistic fighting game to a market that isn’t into the sport. This game is not going to win over any new fans for the K-1 world.
