HD or no, Lair isn't a film to be watched, it's a game to be played. Therein lies the problem. Lair is nearly impossible to play. To control your dragon, you must use the new PS3
Sixaxis controller. Not the buttons mind you; control is all in tilting and swaying the motion-sensing controller. Since it doesn't work anywhere near as well as it should and there is no option to change the controls, even the simplest task becomes a baffling ordeal. You would have an easier time controlling the game through telekinesis than you would through the game's only control scheme.
I will add one thing here, just to be fair. Through the PS3's remote play option, you can play Lair on your PSP, assuming you have one. This scraps the Sixaxis control in favor of a more conventional scheme, but it still doesn't work great because some of the game's controls aren't mapped to any of the PSP's buttons. It makes the game more fun, but takes away a few of your airborne moves, which is completely unacceptable.
I could go on about unlockables and replay value, but most people will sell this game in disgust after the first level or two. Thankfully, the PS3 now has Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword to keep fans happy. But back over the summer, when gaming was a barren wasteland, PS3 owners didn't have much choice. Underrated? No way. Complete crap? You betcha. With an average score of around 4/10, the game is just as bad as all the critics warned. Stay as far away as humanly possible.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
30%. But only because it is nice to look at and listen to...
