Owners of Sony's Network Adaptor will soon be in for a treat.  EverQuest, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that has become an obsession with so many PC gamers will soon be available on the PS2.  If you're not familiar with EverQuest, it is like a never-ending RPG set in a dynamic world populated with human players such as yourself.  No scripted or open-ended RPG can match human players for dynamic, unpredictable gameplay, which is precisely the reason the game has done so well on the PC.

The world in the game is huge, with over 323 square miles of terrain to explore.  Since the game runs on Sony's servers, Sony is free to open up new lands and add new content at any time.  This is one game that actually evolves as you play it.

The game will feature a storyline, quests, and subplots, so there is always something going on when you want to do more than explore and slay beasts.  You'll be able to create parties with your fellow players, drawing on your strengths to make a powerful team.  There will be nine races in the game and 14 different character classes from which to choose, so there will be plenty of variety in the players you encounter and the teams you can form.

This brings us to the focus of this preview: the game's races.  Sony provided us with a look at the races available at the launch of the game, and we wanted to share this sneak peek with you...

Barbarian

Barbarians are the hardy stock of Northmen from which all humans originated. They are the fierce, steely warriors of legend. Barbarians can be Rogues, Shaman or Warriors.

Dark Elf

The Dark Elves are unrivaled in their cunning, wit, and malevolent drive to fulfill their unquenchable desire for personal power. Dark Elves can be Clerics, Enchanters, Magicians, Necromancers, Rogues, Shadowknights, Warriors, or Wizards.
