Now Warhawk does come with a deathmatch mode, and while it can be fun for an occasional change of pace the real heart of the game is in the team-based play. The two main team-based modes are capture the flag and zones. You know the drill with capture the flag - each team has a base and a flag and you need to bring the enemy's flag back to your base. Zones is based on capturing control points spread around the map similar to the Battlefield games. One difference here is that the control points generate a zone around themselves and if you control several points their zones can merge together and provide you with a bonus to the score that the control points generate for your team.

One of the things that really struck me about Warhawk when I first started playing was that the maps are truly impressive. In their full 32 player sizes, they are quite extensive and feature a number of land features from mountains to entire towns. The draw distance is pretty impressive and can really be appreciated from the air, but to get a true sense of scale you should take the time to try and walk across the map. And the maps look great as well. I found myself occasionally pausing during play to just take in some of the views.

Warhawk features extensive stat tracking and a ranking and medals system that rewards your in-game accomplishments. As you progress in rank you'll earn new skins as well, so you won't have to run around looking like a generic noob for too long.

Deciding whether or not Warhawk is for you is a pretty simple decision. If you like online play in wide-open battlefields then it's an excellent choice. If you want more from your shooter than online play or prefer at least a little story and presentation, then you may want to consider looking elsewhere. Warhawk's soul lies in its online battles and that's all it has to offer.

In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 90%. If you like online shooters, then walk, drive, or fly to your nearest store and pick up Warhawk.
