The game lets you just go out and play on your choice of 12 courses, but the
game’s centerpiece mode is the PGA Season mode. This mode creates a calendar of
events that range from challenges such as finishing a sequence of holes within a
set stroke limit to full-blown, multi-day PGA Tour events. You have the option
of skipping events if you really don’t want to compete in them, but missing
challenges means missed opportunities to improve your stats and earn bonus cash
to spend at the pro shop. Other events have entry restrictions, so you may find
yourself barred from them if, for example, you’re not ranked high enough on the
PGA Tour. The PGA Tour culminates in the FedEx Cup where points accumulated in
tournaments are used to determine the Cup’s winner.

Outside of quick play and the season mode, there are not a lot of other play
options. The game includes only two mini games which is surprising for a
portable game. The mini games are putting frenzy in which you must sink as many
putts as you can within a set time limit and shooting gallery. Shooting gallery
places you in front of a game board with 15 squares on it. The squares are
assigned point values or have various positive or negative effects tied to them
such as double scoring or the loss of five seconds from the event timer. Your
goal is to generate a high a score as possible by driving the ball at the board
and hitting the squares. Both games are fun enough in short doses, but you’ll
spend far more time in the other game modes than you will here.
Multiplayer action is supported both over Ad Hoc and Infrastructure modes.
Playing through 18 holes can be time-consuming, so it may be difficult to get
through many rounds online. Things generally play smoothly – except for the
hitch in the sing-up process to play in Infrastructure mode. You either need to
pay EA $2 or agree to give up your email address to marketers. It’s disturbing
to see an additional fee to access part of a game after you’ve already parted
with a couple of Jacksons for it. What’s next, paying to unlock course? Oh wait,
they have that already in the Xbox 360 version of the game.
Overall Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is a good choice for enjoying a little golf
action on your PSP. Don’t expect it to be as feature-packed as the console
versions or a significant upgrade over last year’s edition, though.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
88%. The best there is in portable golf.
