First I have to start by saying that I have no idea what the title of Every Extend Extra is supposed to mean. What I do know is that it is a puzzle game from the makers of the popular Lumines puzzle game. It shares a collection of cool beat tracks and funky colorful backgrounds with Lumines, but its gameplay is decidedly different. Rather than matching squares of colored blocks, Every Extend Extra gives you an exploding cursor and drops you in a whirlpool of colored lights and swirling little things that look like jacks. You are given a “ship” (in reality a pulsating little cursor) and sent into this maelstrom to clear out all of the jacks and occasional enemy disco light ships that come at you. To do so you must explode your ship in the vicinity of the jacks to take them out – the trick is to try and position yourself to take out as many as possible and set off chain reactions. At this point it’s taken me far longer to describe how the game works than it does just to figure it out by playing it, meaning that the basic concept here is pretty simple. Added pressure is applied by adding a countdown timer to the levels to prevent you from waiting too long to explode while trying to set up the perfect chain reaction.

Every Extend Extra can be fun and even a bit addicting, but it can also be frustrating. In addition to time pressures, you’ll also run into bosses that fill the screen with deadly shots and require ever lengthening combos to be harmed. What starts as a quirky puzzler quickly ramps up to an intense twitch-fest that will quite probably put off a lot of puzzle game fans.

In addition to the regular game mode, masochists can try to make their way through a boss only mode. There’s also a competitive multiplayer mode which can be a lot of fun. All modes feature some great techno tracks that will get your feet moving as your fingers are twitching.

Every Extend Extra is a bit too difficult and fast-paced to appeal to everyone. However, it is quirky and enjoyable enough to attract a legion of diehard fans. If you’re looking for a little more twitch and pressure in your puzzle games, then be sure to check it out.

In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 80%. Do you find puzzle games to be slow and boring? Every Extend Extra will certainly change your mind.
