"Dirge is good, but not great. The pros are obvious: you're back in
Midgar blasting the crap out of bad guys with Vincent, who's almost as cool as
Cloud, and slowly revealing more of this enigmatic character's past. The RPG
elements were OK, the idea was great, and for the most part, it's fun to play.
The problems I had with this game are as follows: First of all it's way too
restrictive. Vincent has this cool double jump that he can use to jump up on a
crate here and there, but can't jump over or onto most obstacles, even when they
seem low enough that he should be able to. It would've been cool to implement
this double jump in combat more, but the only use I could find for it besides
just looking pretty was to jump aside or behind an enemy that got too close.
Second, me and everyone I've asked agree that it's pronounced mako, like the
shark, not mahko. I guess that's probably how it's pronounced in Japan or
something. I don't know why, but it sounds stupid to me and it bugged me the
whole time. Lastly, the bad guys laugh maniacally way too often. The good guys
never laugh like that. Fine, they're all crazy and evil, but good Lord, there's
a limit before it becomes irritating and cheesy. So overall, my only beef with
the actual gameplay is not being able to utilize the environment like you should
in this type of game, but combined with the few minor annoyances in the script,
it slides down the rating scale to a solid B." - evenprettier
