Aside from the normal sword and bow attacks, Eragon also learns magic as the
game goes on. In order to cast a spell you will need to draw the appropriate
symbol in the touch screen. In the real-time heat of a battle this could be
rather unnerving, but you can slow down time in order to allow you to cast/draw
the spell. The more you use a spell the better you get at it so pretty soon you
will find a couple that you really like and pretty much max those out while
ignoring the others. The touch screen is also used to point the spell in the
direction you want it to go. For example you might use a levitate spell to pick
up a rock and throw it at someone. One you draw the right spell then you will
see a hovering rock on screen, and you flick the stylus across the touch screen
in the direction you want the rock tossed. This takes a little getting used to
but it is pretty fun.
There are issues here and there with the controls like needing to use the
stylus to look around and not being able to invert the controls when flying
around on Saphira. Speaking of flying on Saphira, that wasn't nearly as much fun
as I thought it would have been and never gave me the idea or feeling of power
that must go along with being on such a beast. I really would have liked to see
more down with the flying and for better control while flying. Graphically
Eragon is decent enough to look at and it was nice that they went for the 3D
world. Several of the spells give nice special effects but things can slow down
a tad when multiple objects are on screen. The music is not very memorable
except I did get annoyed a couple of times at the repetitiveness of it.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated: 66%.
Eragon should probably be played only by those who are already fans of the
source material as those who aren't will be confused at times and would have
more fun elsewhere.
