Ape escape 3 is a fantastic game in which you have to capture monkeys that have been let loose. Doesn't sound much, but when the monkeys are armed with laser guns, boxing gloves and jet packs, it gets pretty hairy!
The game begins with a cutscene of two 9 year old kids, one called Satoru (boy), and one called Sayaka (girl) insiden their house. Suddenely, Natsumi (see previous games) calls them and informs them that the monkeys are running rampage and have taken over T.V! The telly that is now showing has hypnotised anyone who watches, even Bigeru, Kakeru and the prof!
You then choose to play with Satoru or Sayaka, although Sayaka has a special ability, she can starshock some monkeys!
After a few levels, it is revealed that that sneaky ol' monkey Specter is back with a brand new monkey helmet, and is wreaking havoc across the globe with his usual shenanigans, and has even recruited the freaky monkey 5, White, Blue, yellow, Pink and Red monkey (those aren't the same monkey by the way), and Satoru and Sayaka must stop them!
The levels in the game are good fun, quite confusing, colourful and slightly wacky! The different levels range from a ninja castle to a space fortress!
The monkeys in the game have suddenly got more violent in their attacks, with weapons ranging from machine guns to bare fists, these monkeys wont give up without a fight. To make matters worse, some monkeys can steal your gotcha gadgets off you! If they get the monkey net, then your in trouble, the monkeys can actually capture you instead.
The main base of the game is set on a balcony and has seven different parts to it:
Fortune zone, read your fortune here!
Minigame corner, if you have any unlocked minigames, you can play them here
Warp pad, this allows you to acess all unlocked levels of the game.
Data bank, allows to load and save games
Gallery, allows you to view unlocked items
Home theatre, like the gallery
Training station, allows you to practice using Gotcha gadgets and persona (see below)
Also there is the market street with many different shops:
Convenience store, allows you to buy stuff which will help you in the game
Simian cinema, allows you to view monkey movies (see below)and even allows you to make your own movies!
Music store, allows you to buy items for the home theatre
Hobby shop, allows you to buy minigames, RC car bodies etc
book shop, allows you to buy amusing and helpful books
In the game you get a morphwatch which allows you to transform in different persona, all with their different powers. Examples include the Fantasy Knight with a powerful sword and shield, to the miricle ninja which can cross ropes and catch monkeys with the power of ninjitsu! But beware, transormation time is heavily limited...
You also get Gotcha gadgets to help you traverse the levels and capture monkeys. From the monkey net to the RC car to the sky flier, there's no end to what you can do!
The in-game music is o.k, but not that good. for instance, imagine yourself enjoying the music to one of the levels, when suddenly the annoying tune of the genie dancer or wild west kid comes onto the screen, it can get quite annoying!
Another bad thing is the fact you automatically return to the main hub when you capture a certain number of monkeys on a level (not all of them). In order to capture all the monkeys, you have to re-do the level in order to catch the remaining monkeys.
One of the minigames is called Mesal Gear Solid and is a spoof on the espionage game Metal Gear Solid, but is still pretty good. with weapons ranging from a banana pistol to a watermelon bomb, this game is crazy (and pretty hard).
Finally their are code monkeys which become available through use of codes. My favourite code is:
RATCH: Unlocks a Monkey which takes on the appearance of Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank!
