| Ratchet gets a little help from his bot friends. |
One of the new aspects of Deadlocked is that you hardly ever have to fight
alone. The game features full co-op gameplay throughout the single-player
campaign, allowing you to have a friend join in at any point. There are a number
of skins available to co-op players, so don’t be surprised to find Jak of Jak &
Daxter fame fighting along side of you. At times you’ll have the opportunity to
both man large vehicles, with one player taking control of the weapons while the
other drives. There will also be times when you’ll need to directly work
together to get through a mission, such as one player working to disable defense
turrets while the other knocks them out after they’re down. If you can’t find a
friend to play with you then you can bring along a few bots to back you up.
You’ll be able to command the bots during battles, issuing orders such as
commanding the bots to turn a bolt while you hold off enemy attackers. These
bots are fully customizable, so you’ll be able to change their body parts and
set their colors and textures.
If you’re a fan of the game’s platformer roots, then you have no need to
worry as platform challenges will appear in some of the missions. I was given a
glimpse at one particularly challenging one that involved rotating platforms and
grind rails perched above a pool of molten lava. And remember, not all missions
are mandatory so if rotating platforms and grind rails perched above pools of
molten lava give you fits, well you can just try your hand at something else
instead. There is such a large variety to the missions that you’re sure to find
plenty of enjoyable challenges.
You can probably safely refer to Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked as everything
you’ve loved about Ratchet & Clank and more. Deadlocked will hit the airwaves
this October, when you can again begin collecting bolts with glee while
unleashing more destruction than ever before.
