The game is played in a series of small levels in which the goal is almost
always to clear out all of the zombies as quickly as possible. When your target
times are a minute and a half or less, you know the levels are fast playing and
small. The goal is to really make use of the combo system to set off as many
zombie-exploding chain reactions as possible. Combos not only clear out the
zombies faster, they cause power-ups and bonuses to be dropped. Completing the
zones within the allotted time will earn you medals to unlock additional zones,
and scoring big points translates into cash to spend on weapon upgrades. The
game is all about fast-paced, arcade action, which is both good and bad. The
good is that it is perfectly suited to portable gaming when your gameplay time
may just come in few minute chunks. On the flipside, the game begins to feel
repetitive during longer play sessions.

A cool feature of the game lets you pick your character’s first name and
customize his look. As you make your way through the game more skins will be
unlocked, including ones that resemble the members of the metal band Slipknot
and the video game vixen BloodRayne.
Infect supports both Ad Hoc and Infrastructure multiplayer gaming. In Ad Hoc
mode up to eight players can battle it out in deathmatch, savior, and mad cow
modes. In savior you try to rescue the most civilians while mad cow is basically
a game of keep away. Infrastructure mode only supports one-on-one deathmatches,
which don’t really work too well with the game’s design. There are too many
lock-on and fire until someone dies type of matches here. The really cool part
of Infrastructure play is that the winner will “infect” the loser’s game with
his or her avatar and the loser will only be able to get rid of it by winning
three multiplayer games or clearing three single player levels. You can even
track the spread of your avatar online to see how many PSPs you’ve “infected”.
Really, really cool. Too bad the matches aren’t that much fun.
Infected’s over the top gory action and satirical humor make for some fun
gameplay, but only in small doses. The gameplay is just too shallow to provide
you with entertainment for hours on end. If you enjoy mindless zombie killing
gunplay, toss Infected into your PSP case and pull it out when you have a couple
of minutes to kill.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
70%. If you ever wanted to live the Dawn of the Dead experience,
