Gamers' Temple: What was your inspiration for Infected?
Dean Martinetti, Producer for Majesco Entertainment - Obviously horror
movies like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead were the big ones for story. For
the game, originally it was to be like Tag, but we scrapped it for a more
Robotron like feel: a constant barrage of enemies coming at you and almost
making it relentless. I think we scored on that one.
GT – Zombie horror films have traditionally been
tongue-in-cheek affairs. Does Infected carry on this tradition or is it a
“serious” zombie killing game?
DM – No, its all tongue in cheek from the moment the mayor gets his heart
ripped out of his ass to the very end. We wanted you to laugh and we wanted to
make light of all the gore…think Dead Alive on that and again, we scored big.
GT – So just what is turning people into zombies anyway?
DM - The usual…flan. Everyone who eats it winds up eating the
living….damn that flan…damn it to hell.
GT – What made you choose Christmas in New York as the game’s setting?
DM – Planet Moon Studios thought that Christmas in New York would be the
perfect setting for a lot of the humor…it works well and again helps us keep the
tongue-in-cheek feel of the game.
GT – How does the player fit into the game’s storyline?
DM – Lots of lube..oh you mean …never mind. Ok well, Officer Stevens (the
player) gets called into the first attack…the zombies wipe them all out
including Stevens I’m afraid…but for some reason, the zombification doesn’t
take. We find through the story that Stevens’ blood has something in it that
makes Stevens immune…so now Stevens is the City’s answer to salvation.
GT – What types of missions will there be in the game? Will the goal
simply be to kill zombies dead or are there other goals as well?
DM – You will have to save humans that have not been turned yet, bring
them to helicopters that are scattered about in the city, and you will have to
of course, “cleanse” areas. And then you have the protection missions (the
hardest ones I think) where you cannot lift the humans out…they wander around
and you need to kill all the infected while protecting them. The game is varied
enough to keep players on the PSP entertained for at least 6-8 hours if you
played it straight through.
