**** Turning Invisible ? Boxes into Solid ? Boxes ****

Requirements: 14 Power Stars + Mario
? Boxes are useful in this game, they contain both the feather and
power flowers. In order to turn invisible ? boxes into solid ?
boxes, you first need to collect fourteen power stars. Once you
have fourteen power stars, go into the first large room of the
castle. In the middle of the room there is a circle. Light will be
shining down from the ceiling onto the circle. As Mario Stand on
the circle, and then look up to where the light is coming from. You
will be transported to another world.

In the other world you will start off with the wing cap on, high in
the sky. Fly around for a little while if you want, and then pound
the ground when you are above the large platform in the middle of
the level. Once you are on the platform, go over to the large red
switch and jump on it. It will make all ? boxes solid. Your mission
is now complete; you can jump off the platform to exit the level
(you will not die).

**** Draining the Moat ****

Requirement: Defeated 1st Bowser
To begin, head into the castle. Go to either the left or right of the
stairs that are in the center of the castle, and go in one of the
wooden doors that are there. When you are through the wooden
doors, head down the long set of stairs that is there. Then, go in
the large door with the keyhole.

After you have gone through that door, head down the small set
of stairs to the right. Follow the path that leads into the dark, dirty
basement. At the end of that path you will find a door. Go through
it.

On the other side of the door, there are two paths. Take the path
to the right. Go along it until you find another path that leads to the
right, and then go through that path. Stick to the right, and you will
find another wooden door. Go through the door.

You will find yourself in a room with a pool of water in it. Jump
into the water, and swim down. there is a small tunnel through the
water. Swim through the tunnel until you are on the other side of
it. Then, swim up to the top.

In the area you come to, there is another pool of water. Two
platforms stick out of the water. Jump on top of each of the
platforms. Then, pound each of the platforms. When you have
pounded both of the platforms, the water level will drop. You
have successfully drained the moat.

**** Unlocking Mario ****

Requirement: 8 Power Stars
In order to get to the Goomboss battle level, start off by heading
into the castle. Head up the first flight of stairs, then turn left and
head to the door with a one on it. Go into it. Head straight across
the carpet, and go through the center door. Now you will be in
the rec room. Turn right and head to the right wall of the room,
and then turn left and go into the door with an eight on it. Inside
that room you will see a picture of Mario. Jump into the picture to
enter this level.

Inside the level, you will need to make your way to Goomboss.
To get to him you need to fall through a hole, high in the level.
Begin by Sliding down the first log you are on. Keep going along
the platform you land on, following it as it turns slightly to the left.
Jump onto the square platform, and from there jump onto the next
large platform. Defeat the Goomba if he gets in your way.

Keep heading straight, jumping onto the first log as soon as it
comes above the murky water. Go to the edge of that log, and
jump onto the next log when it starts to come out of the water. Do
the same thing for the third log. Once you are on the third log,
jump on the solid platform in front of you.

Follow the platform to the right, and take the first left that you see.
Go on, and defeat the Pirahna Plant when you get to it. With the
Pirahna Plant dead, ignore the Lakitu that flies around, and jump
onto the semi-tall log. Climb up the pole. When you are at the top
of the pole, jump off of it, and head across the long bridge.
Swallow any Goombas that get in your way. At the end of the
bridge there will be three log platforms, each slightly higher than
the last, that are connected. Defeat the Pirahna Plant on the first
one, the jump up to the third log platform. There will be a hole in
the middle of it. Once you drop down the hole you will meet
Goomboss.

Goomboss is not to happy about Mario’s interference with his
plans, and Yoshi does not make Goomboss any more happy.
When the battle begins three Goombas will appear behind
Goomboss. Goomboss will chase you, but you can easily outrun
him. Run away from the Goomboss, and keep running until you
go full circle and meet up with him again. Swallow one of the
Goombas that is behind him, and spit it at Goomboss.

This will make Goomboss even madder, and he will once again
come after you with even more Goombas behind him. Using the
method just described, go around and spit Goombas at
Goomboss (or make and throw eggs at him) until you have hit him
three times. Afte that he will surrender to you, and give you the
key to Mario’s door.

**** Unlocking Luigi ****

Requirements: Big Boo’s Haunt must be unlocked
As you may have guessed from the requirements, you need to go
to Big Boo’s Haunt in order to rescue Luigi. Once you are there,
head into the mansion. Go up to the second floor. Turn and head
to the right wall, and go into the door that is there.

Run straight past the bookcase, but do not turn when you reach
the end wall. Instead, head over to where the ? box is. As Mario,
open up the ? box and take the power flower that is in it. Float up
to the top of the room, and then over to the small platform at the
top of the room. Go through the door that is there. You will end
up in the attic, and a picture of Luigi will be on the wall. Jump into
the picture to enter Big Boo’s secret world.

You will be dropped in a room that is similar to Big Boo’s Merry-
Go-Round. After being taunted by Big Boo, go to the right door
and enter it. You will be taken to another area with several falling
pathways. An eye is in the middle of the room. Run across the
first walkway that is made of falling blocks. Next, turn left and run
across the walkway that is there. Enter the door you come to.

In the room you enter, you will be on one of four ledges in the
room. A large, square platform is in the middle of the room. Jump
to the square platform, and then jump to the ledge that is on the
right. You will be taken to another room, with four more ledges
and moving platforms. Instead of riding the moving platforms all
the way around the room in order to get to the correct door, do a
long jump to the ledge on the left. Go into the door.

You will enter a long room. There is a large chasm in the middle
of the room, but you can cross it by running across the blocks that
fall. Several platforms are on the other side of the chasm. Jump on
the lowest one and ride it up. Then, jump onto the next platform.
Ride it across to the final platform. Jump onto the last platform,
and ride it to the top. At the top, leave the platform and jump
down the hole.

You will fall into a rectangular room with a mirror in it. Walk over
to and stand by the mirror. Luigi will appear, and Big Boo will be
next to him. Big Boo will challnge you to a fight. When the fight
begins, all you need to do is defeat Big Boo. You accomplish this
by running partially behind him, then punching while he is visible.
In the mirror you will see Luigi, and he will do everything you do.
Sometimes Big Boo will disappear in your area; look at the mirror
and play as if you are Luigi. Keep going until you have hit Big
Boo three times, and then he will surrender. Next, he will give you
Luigi’s key. Take the key, and you will be free.

**** Unlocking Wario ****

Requirements: Defeated 2nd Bowser
When you have defeated the second Bowser, you are ready to
free Wario from the clutches of Chief Chilly. Before you begin,
make sure that you have switched to Luigi, as he is the only one
that can enter Chief Chilly’s world. Once you are Luigi, go to the
room that holds the entrance to Snowman’s Land. On the wall
opposite of the entrance to Snowman’s Land, there is a picture of
Luigi. When you look at the Luigi picture in the mirror, however,
you will see Wario. There are several flower stands in the room,
and two of them have power flowers on them. Jump onto a stand
a take a power flower. It will make Luigi invisible, so he can run
through the mirror and jump into the Wario picture. When you
have done that, you will enter Chief Chilly’s world.

When you begin, you will find yourself on a lone, snowy area.
There is a small slide extended out from the area. Head down the
slide, going until the slide suddenly drops off. As soon as you
drop off the slide, a gust of wind will come up and blow you into
the air. Just keep pressing forward until it drops you on the piece
of land with two bullies.

Turn left, and head to area with four tilting platforms. Make your
way across the four square platforms until you reach solid ground
again. There will be a bully there. Now, head to the right, and
wait until the moving wire platform comes near. When it does,
jump onto it and ride it across the gap in between the solid pieces
of land. Once you are on the other side of the gap, jump onto the
solid piece of land that is there.

Head right, and go to the edge of the piece of land. It will not
have a fence. Run off of the piece of land, and another gust of
wind will keep you from falling. Keep going forward, and you will
leave the reach of the wind. Then, you will fall into a freezing lake
on another solid piece of land. Swim forward, and jump out of the
lake.

When you are out of the lake, go forward until you come to a
fence. On the other side of the fence is another piece of land with
several bullies on it. Jump over the fence, and make your way
across the land with the bullies on it (we recommend that you
jump continually). When you are at the end of that area, you will
come to another fence. A small piece of land with a large sign is
on the other side of the fence. Jump over the fence, onto the small
piece of land.

Go to the end of that piece of land, and you will see several large,
moving blocks of ice. These blocks of ice move back and forth,
and up and down. They move very close together at times, so as
soon as two blocks of ice are lined up you need to run across to
the next block of ice. Keep doing this until you are once again on
solid ground.

Run forward, going just to the right of the large, metal bars. There
is a piece of land there that is moving up and down. When it is
low enough, jump onto it. Run forward to the end of it. There is
another piece of land that is moving up and down. When the two
pieces of land are lined up, jump onto the higher piece of land.

On that higher piece of land, you will see another piece of land,
moving backward and forward. Wait until the piece of land that
you are on is high, and then jump onto the piece of land that is
moving back and forth. As soon as you land on the piece of land
that is moving back and forth, jump up to the solid piece of land.

When you are on that solid piece of land, go forward and to the
left. A snowman will pop out of the ground, and you will see
another piece of land that moves up and down. Jump onto the
piece of land, and ride it all the way up. When you are as high as
it will go, jump onto the large, solid piece of land at the top of the
area. There is a large hole in it, so fall down the hole.

You will be taken to the arena where you will battle Chief Chilly.
After he insults your mustache, he will challenge you to a fight.
Now all you have to do is to knock Chief Chilly into the freezing
ice three times. Punching him is a useful method to knock him off,
but it can take a while.

The best thing to do it to get him away from you for a short
period of time, and then you need to run to the edge of the area.
Crouch, and do a backward somersault when he comes near.
Then, maneuver your character so that you land on the part of
Chief Chilly’s head that is farthest away from the edge of the
level. That will knock him off the edge, into the freezing ice. Each
time you knock him into the ice, he will jump out a breack off a
portion of the stage. Keep fighting him until you knock him into
the ice three times, and then he will surrender and give you
Wario’s key.
