For the most part the enemy AI is pretty good as well. Enemies will react
appropriately to you and your squad, seeking cover and moving to better firing
positions as needed. Enemies can exhibit a few quirks, though, especially around
corners. They never seem to be aware of your presence around a corner even if
you are making a lot of noise firing your weapon. Maybe they’re missing the
radar that you have the marks the positions of all personnel in the battle. It’s
also sometimes possible to take down an enemy behind an obstruction by
repeatedly shooting his hand or knee. Sure he’ll pull back a bit when hit but a
couple of seconds later he’ll stick that hand or knee right back out there
again. You just need to continually fire at the enemy each time he exposes an
appendage and wait until he dies of massive hand trauma.

The game’s level design has also undergone some changes. Instead of being given
a few objectives and then having free reign to pursue them in any way, Ghost
Recon 2 takes a more scripted approach. Like a lot of other shooters these days,
Ghost Recon 2 provides you with a compass pointer to your next objective and
you’ll need to follow a predetermined path to reach it. There’s plenty going on
in each mission so you don’t really notice this that much unless you pay
attention to it, but if you’re used to the open spaces of Ghost Recon you may
not like the change.
Some things have remained the same as they were in Ghost Recon. You’ll more
often than not be significantly outnumbered and it will only take a couple of
shots to kill you in your tracks. If you’re not careful you can find yourself
dropped pretty quickly by an unseen enemy and running at the enemy with your gun
blazing is tantamount to suicide. Don’t expect to find any health packs if you
go and get yourself wounded either – you can only take a few shots over the
course of the entire mission. Luckily the more careless soldiers out there can
rely on the game’s save anywhere feature.
Once you’ve completed the campaign, you have the game’s excellent multiplayer
support to look forward to. Co-op mode lets you play any of the campaign’s
missions – except for the small handful that are solo missions in the campaign –
with up to four players. This feature alone is enough to keep you busy and
happy, but then you’d miss out on the other multiplayer modes. There are
deathmatch, capture the flag, king of the hill, and siege modes, as well as an
escort mode called search and rescue. The Xbox Live support is full-featured
with an amazing number of game options and variants, clan support, and team
competitions.
While it is a somewhat different game than its predecessor, Ghost Recon 2
delivers some great modern warfare action. If you’re an action gamer – even if
the first Ghost Recon didn’t appeal to you – then you should definitely give
Ghost Recon 2 a look. You’ll have a blast with both the campaign and the great
multiplayer support.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
90%. The Ghosts are back with a vengeance.
