o------- Item Checklist -------o Right when you begin the game you have the
| | option of loading your clear game data from
| Power Shield..........._____ | Xenosaga: Episode 1. Doing so will net you
| Nano Sphere............_____ | the swimsuits for Ziggy and KOS-MOS, but
| Nano Repair A.........._____ | they are certainly not a requirement for the
| Nano Repair A.........._____ | game, just a nice bonus. After the opening
| Revive S..............._____ | you take control of an A.M.W.S. Directly
| Skill Upgrade D........_____ | down you'll reach a save point, access it
| Bio Sphere............._____ | and save your game. Further down you'll
| | come to a truck blocking your path, this
o------------------------------o truck can be destroyed using the square
button to attack. Continue along past the
two side by side objects and you'll pass a large armoured tank. Destroy this
tank and it will open up a path to two cylinders, the second of which contains
a 'Power Shield.' Proceed Southwest to trigger a scene.

In front of you is an enemy, approach the enemy to begin combat. The combat
system is explained here, there are three types of enemies, Mechanical,
Biological and Gnosis. Square and triangle are your basic attacks, to defeat
these enemies. Start by attacking the first two and you'll be interrupted by
a little tutorial on how to boost. Boost is performed by holding the R1
button and press the corresponding button, either square, triangle or circle
depending on which party member is going to boost. You can open the A.M.W.S.
menu and charge your energy with stock, then you can execute special attacks
depending on how much energy you have stored. There are also different types
of event slots that change every turn, you'll be familiar with this if you
played the first game. The CTC slot increases critical hits by 50%, the BST
slot increases the rate at which boost increases, and the SKL increases the
number of skill points you get from enemies. Three more types of slots exist
which can come up randomly, ETR which increases Ether damage and healing by
50%. T-C where any damaged target loses their turn and RV where a target's
boost gauge increases when attacked. Fight the rest of the battle using the
square and triangle buttons to come out with an easy victory.

Down the path you'll find a couple of traps, shoot these traps as if they were
destroyable objects and any enemies within the blast radius will be affected
by some special negative effects. Just above the yellow trap is a barrier you
can shoot which opens a ramp leading up to a number of cars, the last of which
hides a 'Nano Sphere.' Back down the ramp, but not quite as far as the main
road is a short path leading to a 'Nano Repair A.' Before going up the curved
road defeat the enemy on the corner and break all the objects behind it to
reveal a capsule containing 'Nano Repair A.' Now follow the road North.

After the scene you are no longer in control of your A.M.W.S but instead are
not limited to moving around on foot. Save your game and then head up to find
a soldier, which will be your first battle as characters. There are two types
of attacks, basic ones with square and triangle, then a single one with
circle. There are different attack zones based on height. Many enemies have
weaknesses to specific types of these attacks and you can break the defenses
and allow yourself to attack their weak points. For the rest of the battle
use double square attacks and circle to exploit the weaknesses of these
enemies. Just below where you fought the soldier, on the right is a pile of
junk that you can destroy to reveal a chest containing 'Revive S.' Now head
North. Destroy the white car, as well as the door frame just above it.
Examine this red door to discover Segment Address No.14. Later you'll be able
to return and open up this door, they work similar to the way they did in
Episode 1. Continue up to trigger your second battle. Here you will learn
about using the stock option with characters as well which allows you to add
extra attacks on to your normal ones. Team up attacks are also possible with
specific characters as well, you need to boost the character you want to
perform the attack with. The other condition is that you have a certain
amount of stock with both characters. In this case you are given full stock
so use the double attack on the mechanical enemy, then finish off the soldier
with a square -> square. Just a little bit further is a ladder which leads up
to an object you can blow up containing three 'Skill Upgrade D.' Climb back
down the ladder to the main road and head East to the next area.

On your way down you'll notice a number of pillars with moving green rings,
you can target and destory these rings. Doing so will make a capsule appear
at the bottom of the slanted road with a 'Bio Sphere' inside. A bit below
that the camera angle will change, at this point you can cross over a broken
pillar to a place called "Toys Universe" but you can't get in at the moment.
Return to the main road and keep going East for another scene. Save your game
then make your way North and blast the enormous objects in your way. Continue
North until you reach a tunnel, get ready for your first boss fight.

| The majority of this fight will probably constitute getting used to the |
| more advanced features of the battle system. At the beginning of the |
| fight the first thing you should do is select the move command, this will |
| allow you to move one character behind Margulis and the rest of the battle |
| will be spent going from turn to turn and allowing yourself to hit him |
| from behind increasing your critical chances. When he uses his shield, |
| or you don't have a chance to attack from behind it would probably be a |
| good idea to stock up on those turns. Your double attack will inflict |
| some serious damage so these stocks should build up nicely. When you're |
| ready to make the finishing blow on the boss, you need to make note that |
| he will finish the battle with an automatic final attack that knocks the |
| event slot ahead by one, meaning that if you want the bonus skill points |
| for this fight, you need to defeat Margulis on the extra boost slot. |
| |
