Big
Wave mode is a freeplay mode that places you in a lake dotted with islands that
you are free to explore. There is no time limit or point requirements, so
you are free to practice your tricks or craft handling. Unfortunately, the
Big Wave arena is by far the most boring environment in the game. There
are hardly any ramps and gates, and no cliffs or waterfalls to launch off of and
really catch some air. The mode is good for learning how to steer your
craft, but there's not much reason to play it once you get the hang of it.
Control takes a little bit of getting used to, especially when trying to get
the hang of making tight turns. Complicating matters is the water physics,
which does a good job of modeling current, wakes, and other water dynamics.
It all takes a few races to get used to, but you'll get the hang of the controls
before too long. The tricks are easy to pull off, and the only real
challenge is to learn when to stop pulling tricks and get back on the
watercraft. After playing for some time, it takes some of the challenge
out of the game as there aren't any really hard tricks to strive for. As
such, you'll eventually start to max out on the trick scores on a track - and it
won't take you as long as it should if the game is going to hold you interest
for a while.
The tracks in the game look really good, with a lot of detail and great colors
and textures. The water looks great too; not only is the motion realistic,
you can see through it to the bottom near the shores and shallows. You'll
be moving too fast most of the time to enjoy the details, but each track is
packed with details that compliment each track's theme.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
74%. Jet X2O features some great
tracks and can be fun to play at times, but it does not have the challenge or
features to give it real staying power. It might lose some of its appeal
for you once you've seen all the tricks and tracks.
