First of all, you can race against up to four friends on both circuit courses
and in freestyle competitions. You can add AI opponents to fill out the
card, or compete in duel mode where you're the only participants. These
two modes are also supported online via a Network Adaptor for up to four
players. Finding or hosting games is quite easy, and human competition
always provides more surprises than is possible against the computer. One
strange quirk with online play is that once you go online, you'll have to reset
your system to return to the other play modes.
You
can also compete against other players in one of four mini-games.
Unfortunately you'll need to find a friend in order to play the mini-games as
they are not available for online play. This is a real pity as the
mini-games can be a real blast to play.
The first mini-game is Tag, which adds a bouncing ball to the course you
select. The first player to collect the ball is "it," and the other
players must hit his/her ATV in order to knock the ball loose. The player
that holds on to the ball the for the longest total time is the winner.
Next up is King of the Hills. In this game, certain hills and jumps are
marked with spotlights. If you pull a trick off of these hills and jumps,
the spotlight turns to your color. In order to capture a hill from another
player, you must pull off a higher scoring trick from that hill. The
player who owns the most hills at the end of the game wins.
Treasure Hunt adds special tokens to the course either in a single batch or
in waves during the course of the game. The player who collects the most
tokens by running over them wins the game.
We've saved the best for last. The most bizarre of the games is ATV
Hockey, but surprisingly it is a lot of fun to play. You and the other
players are divided into two teams and dropped onto an ice hockey rink. A
giant puck is then dropped onto the ice that you must attempt to send into your
opponents goal by pushing or hitting it with your ATV. With players
spinning around the ice and the puck sliding, careening, and ricocheting about
the rink this mode leads to some fast, frantic, and decidedly fun gameplay.
If only you could go online whenever you had an itch for some two on two ATV
Hockey...
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
90%. Single player is fun,
multiplayer a blast, go ahead and give ATV Offroad Fury 2 a ride.
