If you're an Xbox Live subscriber, then you are in for a real treat. In fact,
I would go as far as to say that if you're into multiplayer shooters than you
absolutely have to buy this game. Unlike most death-match focused first
person shooters, RCW's multiplayer games are all team-based. Of course
team-based deathmatch is included, but the objective-based games provide more
fun than you can get from mindless frag-fests. Team-based cooperation is
further encouraged by providing players with the choice of playing as one of
four different character classes, soldier, engineer, medic, and lieutenant.
Soldiers are your standard infantry that have the advantage of being able to
wield heavy weapons such as the panzerfaust. Engineers carry dynamite
which they can use to destroy objectives and obstacles. They also have the
ability to disarm dynamite placed by enemy engineers. Medics can
distribute health packs to other players, plus they can revive fallen teammates
and save them a return to the nearest spawn location. Finally lieutenants
distribute ammo packs to teammates and have the ability to call in occasional
artillery and air strikes.
The maps are well-designed and provide for some great gameplay, but to tell the truth
the Normandy map
is such a blast to play that it will be hard for you to tear yourself away from
it long enough to spend time playing the other maps. The Normandy map is a
team-based objective map in which the Allies begin on the beach at the water's edge and
the Axis start within a costal defense fortress built into the side of a cliff
facing the beach. In between the two sides is a killing field of barbed wire and
anti-tank obstacles that the Allies will need to cross if they want to have any
chance of winning the game. The Allies will need to brave sniper and machine gun
fire to get Engineers close enough to the fortress to blow a hole in the wall
and let their comrades into the fortress itself. After that it is fast-paced
room to room fighting within the walls of the fortress as the Allies attempt to
capture the secret documents that the Axis have stored there. The multiplayer
action is such a blast in RCW that it more than makes up for the cost of the
game and an Xbox Live subscription.
In The End, This Game Hath Been Rated:
92%. A pretty good first-person shooter made great by some stellar
multiplayer action.
