EA Big will be going off-road this Fall with the rally racing game Shox.
24 different rally cars have been licensed for the game that will have you
racing three lap circuits in one of three themed environments: Arctic Tundra,
Asian Jungle, and Arid Desert. Each of these environments has seven tracks
built from multiple overlapping sections, so there are plenty of circuits to
race and master. Each has its special challenges, whether it be trying not
to slip on icy patches or cutting your way through thick foliage.
Each
circuit has special critical areas known as "Shock Zones." Each of these
zones are timed separately, and scored as Bronze, Silver, or Gold.
Your score will earn you bonus points which can later be spent to unlock cars
and tracks. Finish three Shock Zones in a row in the Gold, you'll unleash
a "Shock Wave" which you can draft for additional points.
In addition to the Shock Zones, Points are also awarded (and lost) for the
skill at which you corner, pass, and catch air, and for events such as
collisions and race wins. The game will feature a wagering mode that will
allow you to risk these points to win more points and unlock additional cars.
Lose the wager, though, and your points are gone. For the truly
adventurous, you can even race for cars. Win and you take your opponent's
car, lose and you must forfeit yours.
The action in Shox is fast and furious, with multiple camera angles adding to
the sense of excitement. Particularly good moves or big jumps will cause
the game to slow the action so that you can admire the results of your skill.
Shox will be available in the Fall of 2002.
