In addition to the usual updates found in new NHL games - updated uniforms
and logos, current rosters, etc. - NHL 2003 has done a lot of work with the puck
control in the game. For the first time ever you'll be able to operate the
player's stick separately from the player. Not only will this give you
greater shot control, you'll also be able to deke and juke your way down the
ice. Make a good move and your opponent will bite, heading in the wrong
direction and out of the play.
The physics of the puck has been completely overhauled and it will more
closely resemble the real thing. When the puck hits an object it will no
longer fall flat. Variables such as the puck speed, angle, and height over
the ice will have an effect on how the puck ricochets or bounces.
Also new this year is the game breaker. Every time you make a good play
it will add to your game breaker meter. When this is full you'll be able
to make a game breaker play. The speed of the game and everyone around you
will slow down, but you'll still move at a normal pace. This is a way to
simulate the game awareness and quick thinking and reflexes possessed by the
game's best players.
Look for NHL 2003 to hit stores in late September.
