"Killer Defensive audibles. The key to a great defense is your awareness and
ability to shift and react to offensive changes. Trying not to leave your self
open to any offensive attack. The audible buttons are o,x,square L1 and r1.
Remember the R2 audible flips your play and L2 audible returns you to the play
you first picked. Use these to your advantage. My strategy works like this. the
square button I make a run and short pass defense such as 46 manlock, or a 3-4
man lock maybe even a 4-3 but I don't really like the 4-3 defense. the x button
is my deep protection like a dime prevent or a quarter something that can stop
the deep pass. and circle is my goal line audible. Do not use cornerback blitz
it leaves you so open to anything! Use like a slide or stack or base goal line
defense I use slide. For L1 I use a punt block not punt return and for r1 use
either a field goal block a zone defense or a linebacker blitz play. Now how you
use your audibles is important. When you first pick a play in a game pick a play
you don't already have an audible for because that becomes like an extra audible
because you can audible to it again using L2(remember audible to your original
play). Now the key is to not bite. Experienced gamers will try to trick you into
changing coverage to get a better play. audible only when obvious (for example
opponent audibles to goal line play then you would audible to your goal line
audible. Or if in a shot gun audible to pass coverage play. Also try to mix it
up with blitz. Do not blitz too much! experienced gamers will pick up your blitz
and your blitz will be a waste because it will leave you open to aerial attacks.
Try always coming out in a short play defense and audibling when necessary.
Always check your defense. Press L2 to see your play make sure all receivers are
covered with a man if not adjust. When in a possible run tighten up your defense
using your shifts or drop back your coverage when facing a deep threat try to
anticipate what your opponent will do. Also look for trends or plays your
opponent uses over and over. Try to be in the right place for the easy
interception or quick tackle. All in all stay ahead of your opponent and try
playing your free safety or line backer. For mobile Quarter backs pick a
defensive back who is in a zone or blitz and not covering man to man just use
him to sidestep the line of scrimmage containing the Quarterback. (See my Mobile
quarterback Defense Tip). Try to stop the run in the backfield by using
spontaneous blitzes. Also punt block audible. Pick a normal punt return then
audible to the punt block most gamers will not see this coming and will have to
either take a time out or punt with no protection! Using your audibles can give
you the ball for offense more and keep your opponent punting. Killer defensive
audibles." - Madden's Son
