"Just some basic tips for those not necessarily serious football
fanatics:
When passing, use outs (especially deep outs) to beat zone, and crossing routes
to beat man (combine them for good default plays)
Usually, when you see the FS and SS inch forward before the pass, there is gonna
be a blitz and the man outside that the FS or SS inch towards are gonna be 1 on
1 with that defender. If you think you can beat the blitz, call a hot route and
drop it deep, otherwise hit a back or that manned up receiver short." - LAW
"Special Teams, the forgotten aspect of madden 2003, definitely has the
potential to change the momentum of a game very quickly it can even go as far as
disheartening your opponents and should not be taken for granted.
Kickoff Returns... Although I seldom return one for a touchdown, I have improved
my field position by incorporating this strategy. Find the 2 fastest players on
your roster and assign them as your kick return men. Once you catch the ball,
you can either follow your blocks and attempt to find a seam or you can move up
field towards the right or left sideline and at the precise moment cutback
towards the opposite sideline. This will cause most of the defenders to commit
to one side thus leaving you with less opposition to beat, especially if you can
break a tackle or use your blockers to beat the defenders closest to you.
Punt Returns. Again sub in your fastest player for the current punt returner,
Before the punter hikes the ball grab a LB or Lineman and bring him close to
your punt returner (Be careful with this because the computer may assume that
you are going to return the punt with the player that you are bringing off of
the line thus rendering the Punt Return man to just stand there) Once you catch
the ball use the blocker you pulled back off the line to fend off tacklers. If
done correctly you will be able to pull off a nice return maybe even a
touchdown." - theeory
